The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - English and Japanese Books

         This year, I've read these books. All of them are Stephen R. Covey's best selling books, The 7 Habit of Highly Effective People. One of them is the English one, and the others are Japanese books. At first, I just wanted to read the English one, but I ended up reading Japanese ones too. ;D  I try to read English articles or an English book on daily basis to improve my English. If you are trying to learn Japanese, I think that it might be also a good idea to read these. :)

     I first read this book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, written in English. I guess that most of my readers have already read this book before, right? It’s been translated into 52 languages and sold more than 25 million copies worldwide. I really enjoyed reading this book and learned a lot from it. I also became interested in its Japanese edition because this book has many advanced vocabularies, so I wanted to make sure if my understanding of this book was correct.

        That's why I ordered this book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (７つの習慣) by Stephen R. Covey (スティーブン・R・コヴィー著), translated into Japanese. I ordered this book from Amazon US, but it was shipped from Germany somehow. ;D I also enjoyed this book. If you are a beginner in Japanese, it might be too difficult though. I read its reviews that some Japanese people also find it difficult to finish reading it.

        Before my husband went on his business trip to Tokyo last month, I decided to order these Japanese comic books. Isn't it surprising? The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has Japanese manga edition! I don't usually buy nor read Japanese comic books, but when I found that these comic books have so many positive reviews on Amazon Japan, I couldn't resist buying them. It's very easy to read these manga for anyone, so even if you are a beginner in Japanese, I think that you can enjoy reading them.

      It's a story about young woman working as a bartender. As the story goes forward, she learns the 7 Habits and gradually grows as a person.

      If you are in Japan, you can probably find these comic books at bookstores. You can order them from Amazon Japan as well.
      If truth be told I ordered one of the comic books from Amazon Japan, and my husband picked it up at a convenience store in Tokyo like always he does, but the others are the ones I purchased on Japanese Yahoo Auction (ヤフオク), and he picked them up at a post office nearby his hotel in Tokyo. Some post offices (Yuyu Madoguchi, ゆうゆう窓口) in Japan open 24/7. I asked sellers to ship them to the post office. It's called Yuubin Kyokudome (郵便局留め). Since we don't live in Japan now, picking them up at the post office was very convenient for us! Obviously, I was able to purchase them with lower prices on Japanese Auction. ;)  However, if you cannot read and write Japanese and are not familiar with Japanese Auction, I don't really recommend you to purchase from it though. It might be too difficult for you. Purchasing them from bookstores is perhaps so much easier for some people.



      This month, he also went on his business trip to Japan. I'll write about it next time. :)

Marie Kondo's New Book : The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying Up

     In 2015, Marie Kondo, who is  a Japanese organizing consultant and author, was selected as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine. As you might know, she is the author of the best selling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tiding Up. As I mentioned in my previous entry, I've read her books, The Life-Changing Magic of Tiding Up and Spark Joy, and I learned a lot from her books. After reading the books, I was able to discard so many clothing, books and more. I was glad that I could reduce my belongings before moving out my previous apartment. Her books are truly life changing! :) If you haven't read her book yet, you should try The Life-Changing Magic of Tiding Up. :)

 
      She finally released The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying Up (マンガで読む人生がときめく片づけの魔法) in Japanese in February this year. It's a story of Marie Kondo's client who is 29-year-old woman whose home has been cluttered. Japanese people review that they were able to tidy up their home after reading this manga!

     Then, she also released The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying Up in English in June this year. I think this book is also perfect for people who don't like reading a book but love manga. I think that children love it.

Money Magazine - My Favorite Financial Magazine

     I've subscribed to some magazines since last summer. Sunset magazine subscription was from my bank, and others are the magazines I chose on my own. :)

      My most favorite magazines is definitely Money magazine. As I mentioned in my previous entry, I read the best selling books written by Robert Kiyosaki such as Rich Dad Poor Dad and Rich Dad's Cashflow Quadrant last year. Because of those books, I became interested in articles related to finance and decided to subscribe to Money Magazine. Nonetheless, it's pretty hard for me to read up all articles in the magazine because each magazine has a great number of financial information and most of them are new to me. Learning new things is always hard. I usually read some articles before going to bed and share the information with my husband.

     Yesterday, I received this March 2017 issue of Money magazine. It's the 2017 tax filing season, so I should read it up before filing my taxes. :)   

       Anyway, last night, I learned about FamilyTreeNow.com from this magazine. The FamilyTreeNow.com reveals information of all your relatives, neighbors, past roommates, current and past accurate addresses and more for free. It's seriously dangerous to show those information in public. However, I am glad that Money magazine taught me that you can remove your information from the website at familytreenow.com/optout. As soon as I read this article last night, I removed my information from it, and this morning, I confirmed that there is no my information on FamilyTreeNow.com. :)  I thought Money magazine provides me with the best information even though there are a ton of information on Internet. I hope I can improve my financial literacy with my one year Money magazine subscription. :)

The 6 Best Things I Purchased in 2016

      I think that my husband and I purchased more products this year than previous years. It's because he had a chance to go to Japan twice this year, so I was able to get some Japanese products which I had never tried before and found some great products. We also purchased a small condominium which was pretty outdated and needed to renovate a lot. That's why we have purchased many products for home renovation since then.

     Anyway, I'm going to share the best products I purchased in 2016 with you.

      As I mentioned in my previous entry, 2 Best Japanese Hair Dryers, Panasonic Nanocare Hair Dryer has been very popular in Japan. I purchased this Panasonic Nanocare Hair Dryer EH-NA97-P from Amazon Japan in October this year, and I really really love it. :) I used to use a previous version of Panasonic hair dryer for many years before, and I loved it as well, but this one was actually beyond my expectation! Panasonic have been making more and more effective hair dryers year after year! I really impressed that their technology has been improving your beauty life. :)

     I really love this hair dryer has the Hot to Cold mode. First, I blow-dry my hair with "Turbo" and "Hot" mode. Then, when my hair my hair is 90% dry, I change the switches to "Set" and "Hot to Cold" mode. I notice that my hair texture is improving while I blow-dry my hair with the Hot to Cold mode. When my hair is 100% dry, I change the switch to "Scalp/Skin" mode and blow cold air at my hair and my face. While you are using this hair dryer, nano ion, which makes your hair smooth and beautiful, are being released from the vents. :)

       I wanted to try this Shiseido Tsubaki Damage Care Hair Water because it has so many positive reviews on Amazon Japan and @cosme. When he was on business trip in Japan, he purchased it with refill for me at a drugstore. :)

      This hair water protects against damage from heat and UV. I apply it on my hair right before blow-drying my hair. This hair water truly makes my hair smooth and silky. This is the best hair care product I've ever used! When he went to Japan a month later, I also asked him to purchase this hair water for me again because I didn't want it to run out before he would go to Japan next year.

      I found this facial cleanser has so many positive reviews on Amazon Japan. This facial cleanser is for oily skin, and my skin is dry combination skin, but I couldn't resist trying this product because of its excellent reviews. Actually, I am really obsessed with this product now. It gives you extremely intense cool feeling, so you might want to use it during summer. :) It makes your skin really clean; yet, it's gentle to your skin. This is actually a men's facial cleansing product, but it's also popular for women in Japan. :) Obviously, this is the best Japanese facial cleansing product I've discovered this year!

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up

       Marie Kondo, who is  a Japanese organizing consultant and author, was selected as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine last year. I really wanted to read her books, and I ended up reading up two her books, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Spark Joy this year.

       I was really impressed at her passion for tidying. Her book inspired me a lot, and I was glad that she had written this book to share her tips for tidying. As I read the book, I tried to tidy up my home by category according to her method. I was able to get rid of many clothing which I wouldn't wear anymore and things I wouldn't use. Because my husband and I moved to new home from our previous apartment, I am glad that we could finish tidying before moving into our home. :)

5. Rich Dad Poor Dad

      After I enjoyed reading Marie Kondo's books, I started reading this book, Rich Dad Poor Dad written by Robert T. Kiyosaki. I learned a lot about money from this book. According to Kiyosaki, your own house and car are not assets, and those are huge liability. I read this book four months before we purchased our home. Before reading the book, I had no idea which home we should purchase. If I hadn't read this book, we would definitely have chosen a different home. I am glad that I eventually found this book! This book was a life-changing book for me. :) I also read his another book, Rich Dad's Cashflow Quadrant.

6. Our Home

      This was the most expensive thing we've ever purchased in our life. As I mentioned in my previous entry, Our Home Renovations, we were looking for an outdated home to experience home renovation. Even though it costs a lot of money for home renovation, and we spend hours and hours, we think it's very important to experience those things while we are still young.

Now

       Even though we are updating our home on a budget plan, we've spent a lot of money for our home renovations this year. However, we are happy that our outdated home has been improving gradually. :) I am looking forward to seeing at how much our home improves next year.

Finished Reading the Book, Rich Dad's CASHFLOW Quadrant: Rich Dad's Guide to Financial Freedom

         As I mentioned in my previous entry, I finished reading Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki and ordered another his-best-selling book, Rich Dad's CASHFLOW Quadrant, from Amazon. Even though I am not usually an avid reader at all (I don't usually read a book even in Japanese.), I really enjoyed reading this book! It was very easy to read, and I finally finished reading it last month. :)

Rich Dad's Cashflow Quadrant

        This book taught me a lot of things about money. One of things I agreed with Robert T. Kiyosaki was that people who look like rich aren't always rich people. As people earn more money, they tend to buy more luxury cars and larger houses, so they look wealthy to everyone. However, they end up having too much debt and struggle with serious financial problems. In contrast, the rich dad, who was the richest person in Hawaii, lived modestly for years to build assets. He lived in the modest house and drove a pickup truck. Everyone never thought he was rich. When he finally could build enough assets, he bought a large house by cash, and it surprised many people. In order to get financial freedom, it's very important to improve your financial literacy. It's not okay to have huge liability and work harder and harder in order to pay off the huge bill. As I mentioned in my previous entries, it's very important to know how to spend money wisely.

    Because I loved these books, I told my husband what Robert Kiyosaki's books taught me about. He became really interested in the books but doesn't have enough time to read a book. I recommended him to read the book while he was on airplane during his business trip, but it was not enough. Last week, we finally borrowed the CDs of Rich Dad Poor Dad from our local library, and he listened to the CD in his car everyday.

   

     This year, I've already read up 4 English books. Frankly, I didn't use to be good at reading in English at all years ago. I disliked reading English articles because it gave me headache. However, now it's very easy for me to read English books somehow. More English books I read, faster I can read. I think that the reason why I really enjoy reading English books now is that this is the thing I couldn't do years ago. It's strange, but it's true. Learning a second language is not easy at all, but when the effort paid off, it's really satisfying. :)

Finished Reading the Book, Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money - That The Poor And Middle Class Do Not!

      I finally finished reading this book, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki, last night. I would like to recommend this book to anyone who lives in the U.S. :) It's pretty easy to read, and actually, I read it up faster than usually I do. I read it for 30 minutes to 1 hour a day, and it took me 5 days to finish reading it. However, I learned a lot from this book. I thought this was one of the most useful books. :) Nonetheless, this author's philosophy about job and finance is different from my belief because I believe that the one thing that more important than being rich is to find out what we love to do. I think people who have a job which they love also have fulfilling lives regardless of wealth and types of jobs. 

Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money - That The Poor And Middle Class Do Not!

      I met many multimillionaires through my previous job in Japan, and I learned from them that the rich people care about an even small amount of money. They buy luxury things and services which most people can never afford, but they don't miss to get a discount even it were less than $10 worth of it. They donate a huge amount of money but don't pay for nothing. If you noticed that you dropped a penny from your pocket but didn't care about it because of a penny, you might be too loose with money. If you disrespected a small amount of money, I think you would loose more than you noticed.

      One of things I agreed with this book is about financial illiteracy. If your income increases, and you think that it's okay to spend more money for a house, a new car, and furniture and etc, you will never have money for asset. According to Kiyosaki, your own house and car are not assets, those are huge liability. Because your liability goes up, you have to work more and more to pay off your consumer loans, mortgage and etc. We should learn how we choose to spend the money we have.

    Anyway, I thought this book was worth more than I paid. :)

Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money - That The Poor And Middle Class Do Not!

       About two weeks ago, I ordered this book, Rich Dad Poor Dad written by Robert T. Kiyosaki, from Amazon. Finally, I received it yesterday. :)

      The reason why I wanted to read this book was that I was interested in financial management from an American financial expert's perspective. It's because I often think that the way of think about money is very different between Japanese and American. I believe that living in Japan is much easier and secure because people are protected by Japanese governments. Medical fee is very affordable in Japan because governments pay 70% of medical fee in most of cases. I never felt that I wouldn't afford medical expense when I lived in Japan. Although governments are run by taxes which people must pay. That's why I felt that all people in Japan are equal. In fact, it is very safe to live everywhere in Japan.

      On the other hand, people in the U.S. always need to take responsibility for anything. Medical fee is super expensive, so we'd better to buy expensive insurances. There are more poor people and richer people in the U.S. than Japan. Richer people live in safer areas with great schools, but poor people live in pretty high crime areas. Obviously, living in U.S. is very hard for the poor and middle class people.

       Last night, I started reading this book and have already learned a lot about money from it. Actually, I loved this book!

      The book says that the poor dad thought that the rich should pay more in taxes to take care of those less fortunate, but the rich dad says, "Taxes punish those who produce and reward those who don't produce." I used to think that rich people are paying more taxes.

       The poor dad says, "Our home is our largest investment and our greatest asset." The rich dad says, "My house is a liability, and if your house is your largest investment, you're in trouble." I often heard that owning your own house is the greatest investment in the U.S.

Finshed Reading Spark Joy - Konmari Book

      Today, I've finally finished reading Spark Joy, which is one of Marie Kondo's books. :)

     As I read the book, I tried to tidy up my home by category according to her method, and I've almost finished tidying up my belongings. My husband needs to do his belongings though. He would like to try Konmari method as soon as possible but has been so busy because of his business trip. In addition, we need to tidy up our detached garage. I know that Marie Kondo suggests not tidying up by location, but it's too hard to take care of our garage at the same time. I hope we can finish our tidying marathon next month. :)

I Got the Konmari Book, Spark Joy!

      I finally finished reading Marie Kondo's first book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and bought her second book, Spark Joy, at Costco yesterday. :)

      I really enjoyed reading her first book. As I mentioned in my previous entry, dan-sya-ri, 断捨離, had been already pretty popular in Japan before she published her book. 断(dan) has the meaning "to refuse". 捨(sya) has the meaning "to throw out", and 離(ri) has the meaning "to distance." People re-evaluate things in their house and throw out what they don't really need. That's why before reading her book, I wondered why her book became so popular.

     However, Konmari method is a little different from dan-sya-ri. I understand that her method is not just discarding things you don't need. She believes that all your belongings have spirits and want to help you. When the things' jobs were done (right before discarding the things), we should appreciate them and say thank you respectfully. As I read her book, I was really impressed at her passion for tidying. She is a young cute woman, but she really knows so many tidying tips from her experiences. She has dedicated herself for tidying since 5 years old and worked as an organizing consultant for many years.

     After reading each chapter, I told my husband what she taught me that day. I learned many tidying tips from her book and thought that this book was really worth more than the price I paid. I even thought that I should have bought it sooner! If you haven't read her book and find it difficult to organize your home, you really should read this book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

Marie Kondo's Books at Costco

       When I went to Costco a few weeks ago, I found that they were selling books written by Marie Kondo, who was selected as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2015. I bought my book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, from amazon US, and I've sometimes read it for 10 minutes or so before going to a bed. It's very easy to read and almost finish reading an entire book! Her book inspired me a lot, and I was glad that she had written this book to share her tips for tidying!

      After finishing reading the book, I would like to read another her book, Spark Joy, which also has so many positive review on Amazon.:) I should order the book tonight before finishing up reading my book!

I Finally Received the Book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up

     As I mentioned in my previous entry, Marie Kondo, who is  a Japanese organizing consultant and author, was selected as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine last year. When I knew about that, I thought I should read her book! I always wanted to read her book but it took me eight months until I ordered her book because I was going to find her book at a library. Last month, I found this YouTube video that is sharing how Konmari changed his life, and I was really inspired by this video. I realized that I was waiting too long to get her book and decided to order it right after watching it. :) Before receiving the book, I even couldn't wait to start organizing my rooms, and I got rid of so many my clothes that I wouldn't wear anymore according to her method. (I watched Marie Kondo on Japanese TV show a while ago and learned how to declutter your home.)

      I finally received this book, the life-changing magic of tidying up, yesterday! :)))

      Today, I've already started reading her book in English. I am not usually an avid reader. In fact, I don't usually read books even in Japanese, which is my first language. However, I think I will finish reading the entire book sooner than I usually do. :)
