Emerald Bay - Traveling Lake Tahoe

My husband and I went on a road trip to South Lake Tahoe on August 30 through September 1. It's been about six months since we traveled there. I didn't finish writing about it because I was very busy during holiday season last year. I cannot believe that my last entry about Lake Tahoe was written on October 2. Today, I finally decided to write about it where I left off. :)

It was a very  beautiful morning on September 1, which was the last day of our traveling in Lake Tahoe. We woke up early and headed toward this inspiration point vista of Emerald Bay. This parking lot was not busy at all and was free. :)

We were able to see Fannette Island, which is the only island in Lake Tahoe and lies within Emerald Bay. The scenery of Emerald Bay was breathtaking!

Lake Tahoe is one of the largest lakes in the U.S. Some people were kayaking on this huge beautiful lake. I hope I will try kayaking there some day.

We were able to take beautiful pictures there, but I wished I could have stayed there longer. Anyway, we headed toward home. It was a log trip to come back Southern California.

Lakeside Beach in South Lake Tahoe

It's been a month since my husband and I traveled in Lake Tahoe. I forgot the name of the beach we went to because there are so many beaches around the lake. Last night, I finally figured it out, so I'll continue where I left off.

As soon as we arrived in Lake Tahoe, we went to our motel and got tourist fliers. We decided to go to Lakeside Beach according to the flier. There was a parking lot in front of the beach, but it was very hard to find a parking space. It took us time to find one.

Soon after entering the beach, we had sandwiches which we bought in Bishop for lunch.

Then, we went to a rental shop to ask for rental and tour. I wanted to explore the lake to see beautiful scenery, but there was no cruise tour. We finally decided to rent a paddle boat. Even though this place was "lake", it had waves like "sea" somehow. On the boat, I was often scared that the boat would tip over. Frankly, this boat was terrible. It was seriously very hard to steer the boat. Even though we tried hard to paddle the boat, it didn't go forward as much as we hoped. I thought that kayaking was much better to enjoy water activity there. Anyway, it was good exercise for us under the sun.

Driving to South Lake Tahoe

My husband and I headed toward South Lake Tahoe on August 30. We stayed in Bishop one night on our way. We drove through US 395 for our first time, and we enjoyed watching beautiful seneries while driving on highway, such as desert, lake, and cattle and house ranch. Even though it was very hot days and was very long distance, we had a nice drive. :) We finally arrived Lake Tahoe on August 31.
I finally uploaded my Youtube video, which I recorded during driving there.

Our Souvenirs from Lake Tahoe

While my husband and I were traveling in Lake Tahoe, we bought some souvenirs for ourselves. I'm going to share our souvenirs with you.

We have been collecting fridge magnets these days, so we decided to purchase one in Lake Tahoe like always. My husband chose this one, which shows major tourist spots of California. It was $2.99.

Then, we bought some Lake Tahoe t-shirts. Frankly, I've never bought any tourist t-shirt in Japan because those are just pretty pricey considering the quality and design. However, inexpensive local t-shirts are always selling everywhere in the U.S. That's why we enjoy shopping local t-shirts while traveling U.S.

I bought this grey Lake Tahoe t-shirt for $9.99.

Then, we finally got this Starbucks You Are Here Collection Lake Tahoe mug! It was really hard to find this mug there. There were some Starbucks branches around South Lake Tahoe, but Lake Tahoe mugs were all sold out there. We thought that people tend to buy local mugs around tourist area, so we drove to the next cities which were about 45 minutes away from the main tourist area of Lake Tahoe. Since we are Starbucks You Are Here mug collectors, we really wanted to get this mug there. :)

Travel Inn in South Lake Tahoe - Motel Review

My husband and I stayed at Travel Inn in South Lake Tahoe, California, on August 31. That day was Labor Day weekend, and we booked the room three days before checking in. That's why it was very hard to find vacancy, so we ended up finding this motel. The others were almost all booked up that day.

While we were checking in at the front desk, I noticed something smelled like curry from backroom. Maybe their dinner was curry that day. :) The lady at front desk was pretty nice. I thought this motel was homey. She told us that they were currently having problem with WiFi connection and suggested using other motels' Internet WiFi access and telling us the passwords. We tried that but were not able to get WiFi access eventually. :(

It was a non-smoking room with two double beds. It was so specious. The room was pretty old, so it didn't look very clean. I can say it was okay room.

The bed making was done neatly. :) I liked watching the wooden ceiling from lying down in bed. I felt like if I were staying at a mountain lodge.

There was a fireplace! I think that it will be very useful in cold winter.

The bathroom was pretty small, and there was no vent fan. I just found there was the very small window right next to shower space above my head though. There were two sample packs of shampoo and two soap bars.

The shower space was very small, but the shower had excellent water pressure and lots of hot water.
