How to Order from Amazon Japan for Convenience Store Pickup

As I mentioned in my previous entry, Is It Good or Bad? - Amazon Japan Convenience Store Pickup, a week before my husband went on business trip to Japan last year, I ordered some items from Amazon Japan. He picked up my items at the convenience store which was located near his hotel in Tokyo. It was very convenient because he didn't have to shop around for me during his busy business trip in Japan. He was able to save a lot of time there. :)  When we have a chance to visit Japan next time, we will absolutely use Amazon Japan Convenience Store Pickup again! :)) You can also check out my previous entry, 10 Best Japanese Beauty Products on Amazon Japan.

That being said I don't recommend ordering items from Amazon Japan to everyone. It's because if you cannot read Japanese at all, it might be difficult to order and pickup items. Even when you set English as your language preference on Amazon Japan, item titles, item descriptions and reviews are still Japanese. When you are choosing at which convenience store you want to pick up your items, they show shipping store lists in Japanese.

If you are planning on visiting Japan and okay to take your time to understand Japanese, you might want to try Amazon Japan Convenience Store Pickup. If you have ever ordered from Amazon (Amazon US or other Amazon), it's not too difficult. For the most part, it is pretty much the same as Amazon US. Today, I'm going to share with you how to order from Amazon Japan Convenience Store Pickup. Before ordering items, you should check what disadvantages of Amazon Japan Convenience Store Pickup are from my previous entry.

1. Go to Amazon Japan
Go to Amazon Japan, amazon.co.jp. Add items to cart. Keep in mind that the titles of most items on Amazon Japan are only Japanese, so if you can type in Japanese, you should type the name of item in Japanese in a search box.

2. Check Your Shopping Cart and Go to Proceed to Checkout
Click "Cart" and check if your ordering items are right. Then, click "Proceed to Checkout".

3. Select A Shipping Address
Search for a new store address. Fill out in boxes and search for convenience store where you will pick up your items. If your convenience store is located in Chuoku (中央区) in Tokyo (東京都), type "Tokyo-to" in box of Prefecture, and type "Chuo-ku" in the box under the Prefecture box.

4. Choose Shipping Store
When you find your convenience store, click "Ship to this store".

5. Choose Your Delivery Options
I chose "Standard Shipping" and "Group my items into as few shipments as possible." Click "Continue."

6. Select A Payment Method.
Choose how you want to pay, and click "Continue." You might want to check your credit card for foreign transaction fee. Some credit cards offer free foreign transaction fee, but many are around 1 to 3%.

7. Review Your Order
Check if everything is okay. Check if the name for pickup is correct. Then, click "Place your order."

8. Pickup Your Items
You can check out how to pickup your items at convenience store and how to use convenience store terminals on Amazon Japan Official Website. I think using convenience store terminal is the most challenging step, but I think you can do it. A convenience store terminal is a machine (looks similar to ATM machine or Airport self-check-in machine) to print out your pickup ticket. After you get the ticket from the machine, take it to a convenience store staff. Finally, you can receive your items. :) Even though many convenience store staffs cannot speak English, I think that they will try to help you if you are having trouble with using the convenience store terminal. Make sure bring your pick-up code (a tracking number and an authentication number) or a bar code (only available for Lawson pick-up) included in an e-mail notifying the arrival of your package to you.

Update: I also wrote about my experience of Amazon Japan Lawson convenience store pickup in my entry, Amazon Japan Convenience Store Pickup at Lawson - New Year's Japan Travel Day 2.

Good Luck!
