Traditional Japanese Porcelain Wares at Daiso

      Daiso sells many Japanese dishes at very reasonable prices. Many of dishes at Daiso are made oversea because dishes made in Japan are not cheap. However, Daiso have some famous Japanese porcelain wares, Mino Yaki (美濃焼) and Arita Yaki (有田焼). When I first found that Daiso has these famous traditional Japanese dishes a few years ago, I was pretty surprised about that because Mino Yaki and Arita Yaki are known as pretty high-end porcelain wares in Japan.

          If you are planning on purchasing some dishes at Daiso, check the label if it are made in Japan.



Mino Yaki, Mino Ware (美濃焼) 
     Mino Yaki (美濃焼) is Japanese porcelain made in Toki (土岐市), Tajimi (多治見市), Mizunami (瑞浪市) and Kani cities (可児市), Gifu prefecture (岐阜県). Mino Yaki is said that it was first made during Heian period (平安時代), 794 to 1185.

Arita Yaki, Arita Ware (有田焼)
     Arita Yaki (有田焼) is Japanese porcelain made in around Arita cho (有田町), Saga prefecture (佐賀県). Arita Yaki is also called Imari Yaki (伊万里焼) sometimes. Arita yaki is said that it was first made in 1610s.

Aki-Home - a Japanese Furniture Store, Nitori

     One of famous Japanese companies expanded into U.S., and two branch stores, which were named Aki-Home, were opened in O.C. last year. Aki-Home is a Japanese company and sells furniture, home accessories, and etc. The parent company is Nitori Holdings Inc, which is successful in Japan. When I lived in Japan, I sometimes went to Nitori and bought some home goods because their products are always very affordable.

      My husband and I went to Aki-Home to see the grand opening store in December. It was two months after grand opening, but the inside of the store were many customers, and many people were waiting in a long line to check out. It seemed they were pretty popular store at the time. I was impressed that there were many Japanese home goods with affordable prices just like Nitori in Japan. Specifically, I was interested in their Japanese tablewares. Those were very beautifully made but were inexpensive. I was glad that they allowed people here to get Japanese home goods easier than ever before. :)  I updated my Youtube video to share their Japanese products with you.

Japanese Porcelain Wares - Arita-yaki

    It is a custom in Japan that a bride and groom give gifts to guests during their wedding reception party. When my husband and I attended brother-in-law's wedding reception party in Japan, we received a wedding gift catalog. There were many products from which we were able to choose on the catalog, and I finally chose five bowls of Arita-yaki, which is Japanese porcelain wares made in Arita, Japan. It's because it is not easy for me to get authentic Japanese porcelain wares in the U.S. and usually is very expensive here. In addition, when I serve Japanese foods with these, it looks very professional and makes me happy. :) I believe it is essential to stick to plate wares because we use them almost every day.

    I like the fact that Arita-yaki is colored porcelain with cobalt blue, red and gold. My Arita-yaki has very beautiful flower paints. It looks very gorgeous. :)

     Each Arita-yaki has a print, "有田焼", to authenticate the porcelain ware.

      In Japan, there are many different porcelain wares, such as Arita-yaki. These are pretty heavy, but I recommend you to get authentic Japanese porcelain wares if you travel to Japan. I'm going to share with you my Japanese table wares next time.
