Otokomae Tofuten, Everyone Should Try! - New Year's Japan Travel Day 8

My husband and I traveled Japan during New Year's holidays. As I mentioned in my previous entry, we went to supermarket nearby his parents' home and purchased some tofu which was made by Otokomae Tofuten (男前豆腐店).

As I mentioned in my previous entry, Otokomae Tofuten - My Favorite Japanese Tofu, I first tried their tofu in 2014 and found liking for it. Their tofu is the best tofu you can find at supermarkets!  In the U.S., I also found their tofu at Mitsuwa, a Japanese supermarket, but their tofu is six to seven times more expensive in the U.S. than one in Japan. Obviously, I cannot afford their tofu in the U.S. ;(

Anyway, when my husband and I went to supermarket in Japan, I couldn't resist buying them. :)))

Tokunou Torokeru Kenchan Premium (特濃 とろけるケンちゃんプレミアム)
I purchased Tokunou Torokeru Kenchan Premium (特濃 とろけるケンちゃんプレミアム) for 149 yen. It's extra rich silken tofu and had four pieces.

I topped it with dried bonito flakes (katsuobushi) and soy sauce. He was surprised at how rich this tofu was. :)

Okotomae Atsuage (男前厚揚)
This time, I also purchased their deep-fried tofu, Okotomae Atsuage (男前厚揚), for 149 yen. It had four blocks of atsuage tofu. There was the recipe written on the package. (Heat sesame oil in a pan, and saute atsuage tofu until it browns. Add bonito flakes, ginger and soy sauce, and stir them. Enjoy!)

This one was also so delicious! My mother-in-law was impressed at this recipe. She told me, "I learned the new recipe from you! I will definitely cook these next time!" (I just cooked it as the package shows though.) Indeed, after my husband and I came back to the U.S., she told me that she cooked it several times and her husband really loves it. :)

If you live in Japan, you really should try Otokomae Tofu! You can find their tofu at some supermarkets in Japan.

One of my Youtube video, Otokomae Tofuten, can be seen on their official facebook page now. :)  I wasn't expecting that when I uploaded this video! As I mentioned in my previous entries, their tofu products are my favorite, so I was very glad that they found my video. :)

Otokomae Tofu in the U.S.

Last week, I found Otokomae Tofu at Japanese supermarket! As I mentioned in my previous entries, I tried some of their tofu in Japan, and I found liking for them. I have eaten many kinds of tofu in Japan since I was very little. Obviously, their tofu products are the best ever.
When I found their tofu at the supermarket, I got excited about it. I couldn't believe that they had variety selection of Otokomae Tofu! :) Specifically, I had never thought that I would see their soy milk in the U.S. before. However, their price was about six times more expensive than Japan! I wish I could afford to buy them ...

While House Foods tofu is usually about $1, Otokomae tofu is around $7. What kind of people can afford their tofu? Even though their tofu is super expensive, it is true that these taste so good! If I can buy one of them, I will choose their soy milk(男前豆乳)!

Otokomae Tofu Review

As I mentioned in my previous entry, I tried Otokomae Tofuten Strong Ken(男前豆腐店ストロングケン) for my first time in Japan last month and found a liking for it.

After that, when I went to a supermarket in Japan, I bought some of their products. I'm going to share what I bought there with you and review on those this time.

I bought Edamame Ken-chan (枝豆ケンちゃん) and Yuzu Ken-chan (ゆずケンちゃん). These were 170yen each. These instructions read that to try with salt only, so I sprinkled some salt on the tofu.
Edamame(枝豆) means boiled soybean in Japanese, so the Edamame Ken-chan tasted just like boiled soybean! It was very unique, and I like that! :)
The Yuzu Ken-chan was also good! I noticed its yuzu taste. I like both, but yuzu one was much better than edamame one.

Edamame Ken-chan & Yuzu Ken-chan for 170yen each

This tofu was Glassan Tofu(グラサントーフ), which was 132yen. Glassan(グラサン) means sunglasses in Japanese, so the picture of the package shows three pairs of sunglasses. The Glassan tofu had six pieces of tofu. This means that each sunglass had one piece of tofu. The size of each piece of the tofu was just right for one serving. The taste of the Glassan Tofu was nothing unique though.

Otokomae Tofuten Glassan Tofu for 132yen

I bought this Otokomae Tonyu(男前豆乳), which was 132yen for 500ml pack. Tonyu(豆乳) means soy milk in Japanese. I wanted to try the soy milk which tofu manufacture made. I have tried so many kinds of soy milk so far and had never thought the taste was very good before even though soy milk is pretty healthy. However, Otokomae Tonyu was incredibly good! I felt like I was drinking tofu because the taste of this soy milk was exactly like tofu. My family tasted it and was surprised as well. Then, I made cafe latte with this soy milk, and obviously, it was the best soy milk cafe latte ever!

If I rank their products, the number one product was Otokomae Tonyu. :)
 No.1  Otokomae Tonyu (男前豆乳)
 No.2  Strong Ken Tokunou (ストロングケン-特濃)
 No.3  Yuzu Ken-chan (ユズケンちゃん)
 No.4  Edamame Ken-chan (枝豆ケンちゃん)
 No.5  Glassan Tofu (グラサントーフ)

Otokomae Tofuten is the best tofu manufacture ever. When I visit to Japan next time, I will definitely try their products again!

Otokomae Tofuten - My Favorite Japanese Tofu

As I mentioned in my previous entry, I tried tofu which was made by Otokomae Tofuten in Japan a few days ago and loved it so much! Their tofu has the best taste ever! Today, my mother and I went to supermarket, so I couldn't resist checking their products. :)

Like picture below, there were many kinds of Otokomae Tofu there, and the packages of their tofu looked very interesting!

I bought some of them, so I will share my review on their tofu with you through my blog next time. :)

As you may know that the tofu package in Japan is not as amusing as Otokomae Tofuten. Usually, tofu packages are like the pictures below.

I updated my Youtube video which I recorded today.

Otokomae Tofuten - The Best Japanese Tofu Ever

I bought this funny looking tofu at supermarket in Japan. I was always interested in this tofu because of this package. This tofu was made by Otokomae Tofuten. I thought their tofu was usually pretty expensive. However, a three-piece silky tofu was 99 yen that day, so I couldn't resist buying it. :)

Tonight, my parents and I had this tofu for dinner. This tofu was divided in three pieces.

I ate it with soy sauce and dried bonito flakes. I was surprised that this tofu was very rich in taste. In addition, it was very silken texture and melted in my mouth. Obviously, this is the best tofu I've ever purchased at supermarket. I really liked it! My mother was also impressed at this tofu too. :)

According to website of the manufacture, Otokomae Tofuten, they makes 24 kinds of tofu now. All of them are very interesting looking. Moreover, their website is super funny. You should check it out! :)

I have seen their tofu at Japanese supermarkets in the U.S., but those were way too expensive for me. I guess those are around $5 each in the U.S. Therefore, I'll check more of their tofu while I am in Japan.
