Amazake, A Japanese Healthy Drink

Amazake
I've had a sore throat since this morning. Tonight, I started having joint pain. :( My husband remembered that we purchased amazake at a Japanese supermarket a while ago. That's why he served this amazake for me! :) Amazake is a traditional sweet and non-alcohol Japanese drink made from fermented rice, koji. It is a healthy nutrient-rich drink. I'll write about it next time. :) Tonight, I need to sleep earlier to recover from a cold.

High Fever

Today, I had a high fever. :( I felt feverish and cold this morning, and I had muscle and joint pain. That's why I stayed in a bed and slept all day. I don't think I have flu or cold, but I'm not sure why I had a high fever. Tonight, my husband cooked rice porridge for me. :) I think I can recover soon.

Emergen-C

I've had a sore throat since last night sadly. Today, and I also have joint pain among with a sense of fatigue. It's been over a year since I had a cold last time. :( I've tried to edit videos this morning, but I gave it up. When I have a cold, I always take plenty of water and vitamin. Today, I took Emergen-C Super Orange, which contains 1000 mg of Vitamin C. I like Emergen-C because it tastes great. I hope I will recover soon.

The Worst Cough Ever

Last Sunday, my husband and I went to Newport Beach. It's been a while since we went there last time. Because I was sick for a month and was suffering from a persistent cough, I spent most of my time at home and only went out for little shopping on weekends. My condition was getting better, and I thought that I almost recovered that day, so we decided to go to the beach. :)

We bought some doughnuts as usual we do there.

Now, I am okay, but I think that I had bronchitis. The cough was very severe and was the worst cough I have ever had. I couldn't sleep well because I was coughing badly with sputum and had wheezing in my throat. I think my resistance was down due to physical and mental fatigue. I was studying for NCLEX for four months and went to Japan. After coming back here, I was still worried about my family in Japan, but I needed to seek what I should do next for my future. I need to move on but also need to take care of myself. Now, I am trying to prepare myself for taking the next big step. :)

I Still Have a Cough

I still have a cough with green sputum, but I fortunately don't have high fever. Today, I have been drinking plenty of water to moisturize inside of my body in order to cough up sputum easily. I hope I will recover soon.

I Have a Cold

I had sore throat yesterday morning and have a cough with green sputum today. I have taken cold medicine throughout the day. This medicine has many good reviews but didn't work for me. As it directed, I took two tablets every 15 minutes for two hours and took two tablets every hour. Because I needed to take this medicine very frequently, I drank plenty of water, which is good for my health though.

Stomachache

Today, I went to CVS, Rite Aid, and Walmart as usual Sunday. While I was walking in the parking lot of Walmart, I suddenly started having stomachache. I had never had such strong gastric pain before. I thought I had to think about many things including my study in past a week. In addition, I have had a lot of spicy foods and have drunk coffee these days. That's why I thought my stomach couldn't tolerate finally. I took antacid medicines and rested for a while. Then, my stomach pain disappeared, and I ate apple sauce and toast for my lunch. Then, I studied for hours. As soon as I finished my dinner, I started having strong stomachache again. I took antacid medicines, and now I have no pain. I guess that I have gastritis, so I need avoid having spicy foods and coffee for a while. :( I will try to have the BRAT diet, which is diet for gastritis.

I Will Make a Habit for NCLEX

Yesterday, my husband and I accomplished our 30-day challenge, which was going to our apartment gym for 30 days in a row. During our challenge, we were moving to our new apartment. We needed to move our belongings into our new apartment, and we had to do a lot of things for the moving. However, we didn't stop going to the gym. We were really tired everyday, but I am glad to accomplish this challenge from the bottom of my heart because I haven't had backaches since I started exercising even though I carried many stuffs for my moving. If I had given up my challenge, I would have strained my back. I've learned from my 30-day challenge that exercising everyday is obviously good for me to maintain my back. Going to our apartment gym has become our daily habit, and we will continue this from now on as well. :)

I tried another challenge in the past 30 days. The challenge was reading an article out loud everyday, and I accomplished this challenge as well. :)
I have realized that reading and writing are interconnected, and reading is obviously my weakness. Before I started this challenge, I hadn't read books on my own will. I had read books because of homework and preparing for my study group. I was not an avid reader, so I made this challenge and started reading an article everyday. I think it will take time to improve my reading skill since I am still not confident with my reading skill now. When I chose an easy book, I could understand well but felt a little bored to read it. When I chose more difficult book, I read very carefully to understand the contents of the story, and I became tired. I think if I continue this, I will end up being used to it. I should continue this and overcome my difficulty.

I think 30-day challenges are the best way to establish a good habit for me. :) I'd like to create a new habit for my next 30-day challenge! I'd like to study for NCLEX everyday. Last year, I studied for it everyday, and at the time, studying for nursing was my daily routine. I studied for it even while I was waiting for my friend and at a dentist, and I also studied during my class's break time. However, since I started taking writing classes, I haven't studied for it everyday. I know that I seriously need to study for it now because I am going to take NCLEX in 19 weeks from now. My husband told me that I should stop going to school if I am too busy by doing my homework because my current priority is studying for NCLEX more than English. I know that my knowledge for NCLEX is not far from the acceptance line, and I believe that I can pass it if I study for it as seriously as I did last year. However, I haven't started studying for it seriously this year! That is why I'd like to establish a habit for NCLEX. I think I won't have enough time to study for it because I need to make a great effort for my writing assignments. Sometimes, I do my homework all day long and often feel that it is endless. However, I will study for nursing every day for any length of time for next 30 days!

I Have A Cold

This morning, I had joint and muscle pain and got a little lightheaded. I thought the pain came from my yesterday's work out, and lightheaded came from headache. I started doing my homework anyway. However, I was really tired, so I rested when I finished one of my assignments. I started feeling chill and have a high fever now. I hope I will recover soon.

I was going to write about my favorite song today because I typically update about songs twice a month and have only updated about it one time this month. Maybe, I will do it tomorrow, which is February.

   Today's Vocabulary
・ got lightheaded : 立ちくらみがする
     ex) I just got a little lightheaded. : ちょっと立ちくらみがしただけです。

I Strained My Back Again

I still have a back pain. It's been a month since I strained my back to a point where I became immobile. After that day, I stretched and exercised almost everyday. However, I haven't done it for a week because of holiday. No, actually it's because of my laziness. Last Wednesday, I used hot pack, and it worked very well. Usually, you shouldn't use hot pack during acute phase. It's because during acute phase, you have an inflammation in your back. If you heat up your back during this phase, it leads to further inflammation and can increase pain. However, it's been a month since I strained my back, so my case has already become chronic phase. It's a good idea to use hot pack during chronic phase because warming up brings more blood flow and releases muscle tension as well. Which means it will improve your recovery and release your pain. That's why I tried hot pack. It worked very well, and I didn't feel pain while using it. Then, I stopped exercising again even though I understood how serious I need to exercise regular basis. :P Two days ago, I strained my back again and feel hopeless now. I don't think my back can sustain for many years if I keep avoiding exercise. If my length of life is 50 years more, I need to maintain my back to last longer. Now, I need to tolerate my pain when I sit on chairs and walk with my heavy bag to my class. Anyway, all I can do for it now is only exercise for strengthening my muscle.

   Today's Vocabulary
・ have an inflammation in : ~に炎症を起こしている
・ heat up : phrasal verb /  温める
・ bring more blood flow : 〔主語によって〕血液の流れが良くなる
・ release muscle tension : 筋肉の緊張を解き放つ

I Have to Think Seriously

Last night, when I put away some of my stuff neatly, I strained my back to a point where I became immobile. As soon as I had acute lower back pain, I lied down and tried to rest. I even felt a severe pain when I changed my body posture slightly on my bed. This morning, I still had back pain, but I was able to go to bathroom and wash my face unwieldy. I stretched and exercised for lower back pain. I need to overcome this difficulty and strengthen abdominal and back muscles to prevent further strained back. Before it happened, I had known deeply that my back pain would come back if I didn't change my life style. I know my lazy life style caused this pain. :(  I have to think seriously how I incorporate exercise into my daily life.

 Today's Vocabulary
・ strain one's back : 腰を痛める
・ to a point : ある程度、いくぶん
・ unwieldy : adverb / 扱いにくい、手に負えない

Pain Relief Medicine

Today, I had severe menstrual pain. I should have taken pain relief medicine as soon as possible. I skipped breakfast today, so I wanted to avoid taking pain relief medicine with an empty stomach because it leads to gastritis. I was waiting for my husband to come home, and I was going to have lunch and take the medicine after that. However, the pain was getting worse. Then, I took stomach medicine and pain relief medicine. I was suffering from severe pain for 20 minutes, but the pain wasn't relived at all. I didn't feel well, and my face became pale. I felt nauseous and ended up throwing up. I am usually afraid of throwing up, and it happens once in a blue moon. Because I throw up pain relief medicine, I thought my pain would never go away. I looked for a soothing suppository, which I brought from Japan, and I used it. I've known the medicine was very strong. 10 minutes later, I was able to experience a reduction in pain. I use pain relief medicine regularly for period pains, and the pain I experienced today was one of the most severe pain I've ever had. I know if I take the medicine before the pain begins or becomes severe, I can control the pain. However, I was too late to take the medicine today.
Now, I feel like I am in heaven. :)

 Today's Vocabulary
・ feel nauseous : 吐き気がする、むかつく
・ throw up : phrasal verb / 嘔吐する
・ go away : phrasal verb / 消えうせる、〔問題が〕なくなる[解決する]
ex) The shock simply doesn't go away. : そのショックがどうしても消えない。
・ soothing suppository : 鎮痛製座薬
・ experience a reduction in pain : 痛みが軽減する
・ period pain : 生理痛
