My Japanese Drugstore Makeup Haul: 9 Affordable Favorites

As I mentioned in my previous entries, my husband and I traveled to Japan last summer. Before the trip, I often watched Japanese YouTube channels about beauty products and made a list of items I wanted to try. Since I love affordable makeup, most of the products I picked up were easy to find at Japanese drugstores. Today, I’m excited to share the nine makeup items I purchased during this trip.

I chose the shade RD‑1 after seeing a YouTuber use it, and it ended up being such a good choice. Since buying it, I’ve been wearing it almost every day. The colors blend easily, add a soft depth to the eyes, and feel effortless for daily makeup. I really enjoy this one.

I chose the shade 04 Deep Brown, and it has been perfect for creating soft, natural brows. It’s affordable, reliable, and has become a staple in my daily makeup routine.

Since its release in 2018, it has consistently won Japan’s top eyeliner award every single year.

This time, I picked up two shades: 03 Dark Brown and 07 Azuki Brown. The ultra‑thin 1.5 mm tip makes it easy to fill in the gaps between your lashes for a soft, natural definition. It glides on smoothly, sets quickly, and the waterproof formula keeps it in place all day. It’s affordable, dependable, and always ends up back in my makeup bag.

This time, I picked up the CEZANNE Gel Eyeliner for the first time. It isn’t as thin as the CANMAKE Creamy Touch Liner I usually reach for, but it’s surprisingly easy to work with. The gel texture glides on softly without tugging, and the color sets quickly, giving a clean, defined look that doesn’t smudge throughout the day.

Even though the tip is thicker, it’s great for creating a soft line along the upper lash line or adding a bit of depth to the outer corners. It’s simple, affordable, and has turned out to be a nice addition to my everyday makeup routine — definitely better than I expected for the price.

This time, I picked up the CEZANNE UV Make Keep Base Moist Type for the first time, and I’ve been really impressed by how well it controls shine. Even though it’s the “moist” version, it still has a nice mattifying effect that helps keep oiliness in check throughout the day.

I’ve been applying a small amount to my forehead, which usually gets greasy by the afternoon, and I’ve noticed a clear difference — it stays much less oily, and the base helps prevent that midday shine. The texture feels light and comfortable, and it layers easily under makeup without feeling heavy.

For an affordable primer, it works surprisingly well, and I’m glad I decided to try it.

Japan Haul: 5 Must-Have Finds from Amazon Japan

This spring, my husband traveled to Japan to see the cherry blossoms. It was his first time experiencing spring in Japan since we moved to the U.S. many years ago.

I visited Japan in the spring of 2014 and was completely mesmerized by the cherry blossoms in full bloom. That unforgettable experience inspired me to encourage my husband to visit Japan and enjoy hanami (花見), the beloved tradition of cherry blossom viewing, with his parents.

Since our parents are elderly, we always make it a priority to see them whenever we visit Japan. It made me so happy that my husband and his parents were able to share this beautiful spring together.
