6 Practical Japanese Items I Picked Up in Japan

Last summer, my husband and I visited Japan, and as always, I ended up bringing home a few of my favorite everyday items. Some of them are long‑time staples that I always pick up when I’m there, and this time I also discovered a couple of new favorites. Today, I’d love to share the six products I purchased in Japan and why I keep going back to them.

1.  Cosme Brush Stand (干せるブラシスタンド)

Makeup Brush Drying Rack

110 yen at Daiso

Cosme Brush Stand (干せるブラシスタンド)

I picked up this Cosme Brush Stand (干せるブラシスタンド) at Daiso — it was only 110 yen, such a good little find. It’s a simple makeup‑brush drying rack, but it has been surprisingly useful. Ever since I bought it, I’ve been using it every time I wash my makeup brushes. It hangs easily on my shower‑curtain pole, so the brushes can drip‑dry neatly without taking up any counter space.

2. Treatment Comb (トリートメントコーム)

Wide-toothed comb for Hair Mask and Conditioner

110 yen at Seria

Treatment Comb (トリートメントコーム)

I picked up this Treatment Comb (トリートメントコーム) at Seria for just 110 yen. It’s a wide‑toothed comb designed to help hair masks and conditioners work more effectively. I first learned about it from a Japanese hairstylist on YouTube, and I’m glad I followed the recommendation. It spreads conditioner evenly and helps it absorb better, so my hair feels smoother afterward. I like it so much that I even pack it when I travel.

3. Foot Scrubber Mat (3D 足洗いマット)

Foot Scrubber Mat

1980 yen on Amazon Japan

Foot Scrubber Mat (3D 足洗いマット)

I also picked up this Foot Scrubber Mat (3D 足洗いマット) on Amazon Japan. It’s one of those small items that quietly improves your routine — the soft bristles massage and clean the soles of my feet, adding a nice, refreshing feeling to my shower.

4. Lion Systema Toothbrush (ライオン システマ 超極細毛 歯ブラシ)

Toothbrush

168 yen at drugstore in Japan

Lion Systema Toothbrush (ライオン システマ 超極細毛 歯ブラシ)

I also purchased this Lion Systema Toothbrush (ライオン システマ 超極細毛 歯ブラシ). Whenever I visit Japan, I always pick up a few manual toothbrushes, and Systema is one of my favorites. The bristles are extremely thin (超極細毛), so they can reach deep between the gums and teeth. If you’ve never tried a Systema toothbrush before, it’s definitely worth trying — you can really feel the difference compared to an ordinary toothbrush.

5. Dental Pro L-Shaped Interdental Brush (デンタルプロ L字型 歯間ブラシ)

Interdental Brushes

Size 0 (SSSS), 0.6mm

Size 1 (SSS), 0.7mm

10-interdental brushes for 278 yen at discount store in Japan

Dental Pro L-Shaped Interdental Brush (デンタルプロ L字型 歯間ブラシ)

I also purchased this Dental Pro L‑Shaped Interdental Brush (デンタルプロ L字型 歯間ブラシ). Ever since I started using it, I honestly can’t live without it. My dental hygienist even told me that my oral hygiene looks very good, which made me appreciate this brush even more. Whenever I go to Japan, this is one of my must‑buy oral care items. I highly recommend trying it — it makes a noticeable difference.

6. Kao Clear Clean Next Dent Toothpaste (花王 クリアクリーン NEXT DENT 歯磨き粉)

Toothpaste

120g for 198 yen at drugstore in Japan

Kao Clear Clean Next Dent Toothpaste (花王 クリアクリーン NEXT DENT 歯磨き粉)

I also purchased this Kao Clear Clean Next Dent Toothpaste (花王 クリアクリーン NEXT DENT 歯磨き粉). When I lived in Japan, I used Clear Clean toothpaste from time to time, but it had been many years since I last used it. After trying it again for the first time in decades, I realized I still really love it. It leaves my mouth feeling very clean without being too strong.

Japan Haul: 4 Must-Have Haircare and Oral Care Products I Picked Up in Japan

As I mentioned in my previous entry, my husband and I visited Japan last year. During our trip, I picked up some haircare and oral care products that I had been eager to try for a long time. One of the things I truly admire about Japanese products is their exceptional craftsmanship and quality. Today, I’m thrilled to share with you four fantastic products I brought back from Japan.

1. Vess Hair Dye Brush & Comb for Professional Use (ベス ヘアダイ ブラシ&コーム)

Hair Dye Brush and Comb

DY-500

Purchased for 495 yen ($3.30) at Hands in Fukuoka

Can be purchased at Hands and Loft in Japan

Vess Hair Dye Brush & Comb for Professional Use (ベス ヘアダイ ブラシ&コーム)

I was eager to purchase a Japanese hair color applicator brush since I often dye my hair at home. After doing some research, I found the Vess Hair Dye Brush & Comb for Professional Use, which has numerous positive reviews on Amazon Japan. Many reviewers mentioned how easy it is to apply hair color with this brush. When I spotted it at Hands, I decided to buy one. As it turns out, it truly makes applying hair color a breeze, and I absolutely love it!

Disposable Shower Cap

Purchased 10 pieces for 110 yen ($0.74) at Daiso in Fukuoka

Can be purchased at most 100-yen shops in Japan

Shower Cap (シャワーキャップ)

Since I dye my hair at home, I often need disposable shower caps. That’s why, whenever I stay in hotels in Japan, I make sure to keep the ones provided for future use. (Most Japanese hotels offer a wide range of complimentary amenities, including disposable shower caps.) However, I still needed more, so I purchased a pack of 10 disposable shower caps for just 110 yen.

3. Daiso Non-Tangled Elastic Hair Ties (ダイソー からまないゴム)

Brown Hair Ties

35mm

Purchased 100-hair ties for 110 yen ($0.74) at Daiso in Fukuoka

Can be purchased at Daiso branches in Japan

Daiso Non-Tangled Elastic Hair Ties (ダイソー からまないゴム)

I decided to purchase brown Daiso Non-Tangled Elastic Hair Ties because I had previously bought the black ones, and they were incredibly durable and long-lasting. Since my hair is dark brown, I chose the brown ties this time to better match my hair color. The pack contains 100 hair ties, and I feel like they’ll last me a lifetime!

4. Interdental Brush (歯間ブラシ)

As I mentioned in my previous entry, I purchased interdental brushes for the first time in Japan about two years ago. At the time, I was buying my favorite Systema toothbrushes at a drugstore, and I noticed the interdental brushes displayed next to the toothbrush section. They caught my eye unexpectedly, as I hadn’t planned on getting them. To my surprise, I absolutely loved them! They turned out to be one of the best products I purchased in Japan, and I regretted not buying more.

Before then, I had never used interdental brushes, but once I started using them daily, I noticed a significant improvement in my gum health. Even my hygienist complimented me during my semiannual dental check-up, saying I was doing a great job maintaining clean teeth at home. After running out of my Japanese interdental brushes, I tried some from drugstores in the U.S., but I quickly realized that the Japanese ones were far superior in quality. That’s why, during my visit to Japan last year, I made sure to stock up on them!

Dental Pro L-Shaped Interdental Brush (デンタルプロ L字型 歯間ブラシ)

Interdental Brushes

Size 0 (SSSS), 0.6mm

Purchased 10-interdental brushes for 299 yen ($2) at Direx discount store in Fukuoka

Can be purchased at most drugstores and discount stores in Japan

Dental Pro L-Shaped Interdental Brush (デンタルプロ L字型 歯間ブラシ)

I purchased the Dental Pro L-Shaped Interdental Brushes in size 0 (SSSS), which is the smallest size available in their range.

Dental Pro L-Shaped Interdental Brush (デンタルプロ L字型 歯間ブラシ)

Interdental Brushes

Size 1 (SSS), 0.7mm

Purchased 10-interdental brushes for 299 yen ($2) at Direx discount store in Fukuoka

Can be purchased at most drugstores and discount stores in Japan

Dental Pro L-Shaped Interdental Brush (デンタルプロ L字型 歯間ブラシ)

The Dental Pro L-Shaped Interdental Brushes in size 1 (SSS) are larger than the pink size 0 (SSSS) brushes. The size of the brush head determines how well it fits between your tooth gaps. Interdental brushes come in various sizes, and you may need more than one size to effectively clean different areas of your mouth.

Can be purchased at most drugstores and discount stores in Japan

Matsukiyo L-Shaped Interdental Brush (マツキヨ 歯間ブラシ L型)

I also purchased the Matsukiyo L-Shaped Interdental Brush, which is one of the store-brand products from the Matsumotokiyoshi drugstore.

Huge Japanese Beauty Haul
When I was in Japan, Japanese yen was pretty low (1 USD was 141 yen at that time.), so everything I saw in Japan looked an incredible bargain to me.😂

6 Japanese Beauty Products I Purchased in Japan

Today, I'm going to share with you six more Japanese beauty products I purchased in Japan.

1. Panasonic Nanoe Nanocare Hair Dryer (パナソニック ヘアドライヤー ナノケア)

Hair Dryer

EH-NA9G

PN: Pink Gold

Purchased for 19,800 yen ($140.42) at Donki in Tokyo

Can be also purchased at most electronics retailers such as Bic Camera, Yodobashi Camera, and Yamada Denki in Japan.

Panasonic Nanoe Nanocare Hair Dryer (パナソニック ヘアドライヤー ナノケア)

One of the beauty products I really wanted to purchase in Japan was this hair dryer, Panasonic Nanoe Nanocare Hair Dryer. As I mentioned in my previous entry, Japan Haul - The Best Japanese Hair Dryer!, I purchased Pananasonic Nanocare Hair Dryer in Japan in 2016, and I really liked it. It's been six years since I purchased it in Japan, and it has been still working perfectly. However, I just wanted to replace it to new one before it broke. It's because I cannot live without Panasonic Nanocare hair dryer. It drys my hair faster and makes my hair smooth and soft.

Panasonic Nanoe Nanocare Hair Dryer (パナソニック ヘアドライヤー ナノケア)

As I mentioned in my previous entry, The Best Japanese Hair Dryer, Panasonic Nano Care Hair Dryer, Panasonic releases new hair dryer every year or so. They have been trying to make more and more effective hair dryers. This time, I purchased this pink gold hair dryer, EH-NA9G.

Panasonic Nanoe Nanocare Hair Dryer (パナソニック ヘアドライヤー ナノケア)

Thare are vents which nano ion, nanoe, comes from. Nano ion makes your hair smooth and beautiful. I also like the automatic hot and cold mode.

Panasonic Nanoe Nanocare Hair Dryer (パナソニック ヘアドライヤー ナノケア)

In Japan, Panasonic hair dryers are pretty expensive but have been very popular. Many Japanese people review that it's the best hair dryer ever they've used.

At Donki in Tokyo, there were many Panasonic hair dryers I could choose from.

Donki in Tokyo

If you buy a hair dryer in Japan and use it in the U.S., you have to know the voltage difference between Japan and U.S. The voltage in the U.S. is 110-120V, but the voltage in Japan is 100V. You might think you need to buy a transformer. However, I have never experienced any trouble with using Japanese electronics in the U.S. I think it's because the voltage difference between U.S. and Japan is little.

Can be also purchased at most drugstores and discount stores in Japan

NIVEA UV Water Gel SPF35 PA+++ (ニベア ウォータージェル 35)

I believe that wearing sunscreen every day is the most important and easiest skincare to make your skin look younger. If you are looking for the best sunscreen, you should really try Japanese sunscreen products.

I like using sunscreen with SPF around 30 because SPF 30 is high enough and gentle to your skin. This time, I purchased three bottles of NIVEA UV Water Gel SPF35 PA+++. Actually, I had also purchased Nivea sunscreen in Japan many times before. I really like the fact that it's very light texture. If you are planning on visiting Japan, you should try Nivea UV Water Gel sunscreen!

I found this Rohto Sunplay Baby Milk at a drugstore in Tokyo and decided to purchase one. Rohto is one of the most famous Japanese cosmetic companies, and their popular products are Hada Labo, Melano CC and eye drops.  After purchasing this sunscreen, I found that many YouTubers review Rohto Sunplay sunscreen and they said this is affordable sunscreen but is just as effective as expensive Shiseido Anessa. I cannot wait to try one.

Facial Cotton Pads

40 Pads

Purchased for 130 yen ($0.92) at Sun Drug in Tokyo

Unicharm Silcot Uruuru Cotton (ユニチャーム シルコット うるうるコットン)

I found this Unicharm Silcot Uruuru Cotton at a drugstore in Tokyo. I remembered that I wrote about this product in my previous entry, Top 3 Japanese Facial Cotton Pads, and I thought that I should try this one!

This is very popular cotton pads in Japan and has been highly rated on @cosme. Many Japanese people have been impressed at this product, which was very uniquely made like sponge cotton sheets, so you need only half amount the normal use of moisturizer (toner or lotion). If you are using expensive moisturizer like SK-II, this is definitely worth a try.

Unicharm Silcot Uruuru Cotton (ユニチャーム シルコット うるうるコットン)

After patting moisturizer on your entire face with this cotton pad, you can tear off along perforation and place them under eyes for using as facial masks. The outer line of this cotton is curved in order to fit your under eye lines.

This is my entry related to this product.

A41

Extra Thin Bristles

Purchased one for 178 yen ($1.26) at Sun Drug in Tokyo

Can be also purchased at most drugstores in Japan.

Lion Systema Toothbrush (ライオン システマ 超極細毛 歯ブラシ)

When I visit Japan, I always purchase some Japanese manual toothbrush. I really love Systema toothbrushes because the bristles of these toothbrushes are extremely thin (超極細毛), so the bristles can reach deep between gum and teeth.

Lion Systema Toothbrush (ライオン システマ 超極細毛 歯ブラシ)

If you have never used Systema toothbrush, you should really try one. You will see difference between ordinary toothbrush and Systema toothbrush once you use it.

Dental Pro L-Shaped Interdental Brush (デンタルプロ L字型 歯間ブラシ)

Actually, I didn't expect it too much before using it, but I really love it. Indeed, I can say that this is one of the best products I purchased in Japan, and now I feel that I should have purchased it more!
