3 Best Affordable Japanese Facial Lotion, Keshosui (& My Favorite One + My Skincare Routine)

Japanese facial lotion is called keshosui (化粧水) in Japan, and it is seriously the most important skincare item for Japanese women. Japanese facial lotion looks like toner. However, while toner is usually swiped on your skin with facial cotton, you can apply Japanese facial lotion with hands or cotton, and just gently pat into your skin until absorbed. Japanese facial lotion is used to hydrate skin, and then you are supposed to use emulsion, milky lotion, which is called nyueki(乳液) in Japan, in order to keep moisture in your skin from evaporating.

Facial Cream (クリーム)

Last month, I read February 2019 Issue of Biteki (美的), Japanese beauty magazine, and I became interested in their article about best affordable skin care products. Today, I'm going to share with you three best affordable keshosui (kesho-sui), Japanese facial lotion, I found in Biteki magazine. :)

No.1 Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner (ナチュリエ ハトムギ化粧水)
500 ml for 650 yen
Can be purchased at drugstores in Japan
Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner (ナチュリエ ハトムギ化粧水)
Hatomugi Skin Conditioner is very inexpensive facial lotion. Yet, this lotion is loved by so many Japanese people. Because of its low price, you can use plenty of it at a time. Many Japanese women suggest to use it for facial mask. You can put it in facial cotton or facial mask sheet, and leave it on your face for 3 to 10 minutes. You can watch this video, how to use Hatomugi Skin Conditioner as a facial mask.

No.2 Shiseido AQUALABEL White Up Lotion II (資生堂 アクアレーベル ホワイトアップ ローション II)
200 ml for 1,400 yen
Can be purchased at drugstores in Japan
Shiseido AQUALABEL White Up Lotion II (資生堂 アクアレーベル ホワイトアップ ローション II )
Shiseido AQUALABEL White Up Lotion is affordable whitening lotion. It prevents freckles and dark spots and brightens your skin. Many Japanese people review that it moisturized your skin very well, and they have been purchasing it again and again.
Shiseido AQUALABEL White Up Lotion II (資生堂 アクアレーベル ホワイトアップ ローション II )

No.3 ORBIS Aqua Force Lotion M (オルビス アクアフォース ローション M)
180 ml for 1,500 yen
Can be purchased at department stores in Japan
ORBIS Aqua Force Lotion M (オルビス アクアフォース ローション M)
ORBIS Aqua Force Lotion is their longest selling lotion. It hydrates your skin and keep your skin healthy and beautiful. It's also perfect for sensitive skin.  Aqua Force Lotion M is for normal to dry skin type, and Aqua Force Lotion L is for oily skin type. Even though ORBIS is pretty affordable skincare brand, you cannot find this one at drugstores. It can be purchased at ORBIS branches, and many department stores carry ORBIS products.

♥My Favorite Japanese Keshosui!
I'm going to share my favorite Japanese keshosui with you. :)

Muji Light Toning Water - Moisture (化粧水・敏感肌用 しっとりタイプ)
400ml for 980 yen
200ml for 580 yen
50ml for 250 yen
Can be purchased at Muji and FamilyMart Convenience Store in Japan
Muji Light Toning Water - Moisture (無印良品 化粧水・敏感肌用 しっとりタイプ)
I have been using keshosui (化粧水), Japanese lotion, since I was a teen. I've tried many types of keshosui so far, and my most favorite one is Muji Light Toning Water - Moisture (無印良品 化粧水・敏感肌用 しっとりタイプ)! (This product can be found at Muji branches and FamilyMart convenience stores in Japan. You cannot find this one at drugstores.) I think I have used up more than 15 bottles of Muji Light Toning Water so far. The reasons why I love it is that it's affordable, so I can use plenty of it at a time. I also like the fact that its texture is as light as water, but it moisturizes very well (With applying light feeling keshosui, I feel as if my skin were drinking water.). Some Japanese keshosui has thicker texture such as Hadalabo Gokujun (ハダラボ 極潤), but I prefer lighter texture to thicker one. If you are looking for slightly thicker texture lotion, you might like its High Moisture one (高保湿タイプ), which is also very popular in Japan.
Muji Spray Head for Keshosui (無印良品 スプレーヘッド化粧水用)
I also love this Muji Spray Head for Keshosui (無印良品 スプレーヘッド化粧水用) so much! You can remove the cap of Muji Light Toning Water and attach this spray head to it. Without this spray head, you can still apply Muji Light Toning Water, but it's so much easier to apply it with this one. This is one of must-have items for me now! Just keep in mind that this spray head only works with light texture products such as my favorite Muji Light Toning Water Moisture and popular Hatomugi Skin Conditioner. It Does Not work with Muji Light Toning Water High Moisture because it has thicker texture.
Muji Light Toning Water - Moisture (無印良品 化粧水・敏感肌用 しっとりタイプ)

Remove the cap.

Attach the spray head to it!
Muji Light Toning Water - Moisture (無印良品 化粧水・敏感肌用 しっとりタイプ)
My Simple Nighttime Facial Skincare Routine
I believe that it's very important to hydrate your skin as soon as possible after taking a shower or bath, so right after I get out of shower, I apply Muji Light Toning Water Moisture on my face. Then, I will wait about 1 to 5 minutes until each skincare product is absorbed into my skin.

1. Muji Light Toning Water Moisture (entire face and neck)

2. Clinique All About Eye Cream (around eye area)

3. Muji Light Toning Water Moisture (second coat! I also apply three coats of it sometimes.)

4. Obagi Vitamin C Beauty Serum (nose and cheeks area)

5. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion as nyueki (entire face and neck)

I usually apply at least two coats of Muji Light Toning Water Moisture. I also apply more than three coats of it sometimes for extra hydration, and it works as great as a hydrating facial sheet mask does. :)

That's it! I don't use luxury products, but my skin is well hydrated and in very good condition. :)

How to Make An Easy Egg Toast (Japanese Sliced Bread + Japanese Mayonnaise = Deliciousness)

As I mentioned in my previous entry, Japanese Lawson Convenience Store Bread Haul, my husband purchased some Japanese bread during his business trip in Japan.

Shokupan (食パン), Japanese Sliced Bread
Shokupan (食パン), Japanese Sliced Bread

In Japan, sliced bread is called shokupan (食パン). Most Japanese sliced bread is thicker than American sliced bread. When you toast Japanese sliced bread, it's crispy outside, yet it's still fluffy inside. :) Usually, packages of Japanese sliced bread have number such as 4, 6 and 8, and it indicates how many slices in the package and also means how thick the slices are. You can choose your favorite thickness of slices.
Shokupan (食パン), Japanese Sliced Bread

4 or less : very thick and perfect for toast
6 : regular thickness but still thicker than American sliced bread
8 : less thick
10 or more : thinner slices and perfect for sandwiches

How to Make Easy Egg Toast
I made egg toasts with shokupan (食パン), Japanese sliced bread, and they turned out so delicious!  Today, I'm going to share how to make an easy egg toast with you. :)

Ingredients (1 Serving)
1 Sliced Bread
1 Egg
Mayonnaise
Salt and Black Pepper

1. With using a glass jar or mug, press the bottom of the jar into the center of the bread.

2. Crack an egg into the bread.

3. Spread mayonnaise around the egg.

4. Toast it.

5. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Enjoy!

Japanese Mayonnaise
Kewpie Mayonnaise
Did you know that most Japanese Mayonnaise such as Kewpie has two types of tips/mouths?

Narrow Tip
Narrow Tip
The red cap has narrow tip, which is perfect for decoration over yakisoba, takoyaki and etc.

Star-Shaped Wide Tip
Star-Shaped Tip
When you remove the red cap, you can see the star-shaped tip. It's perfect when you want to use larger amount of mayonnaise for cooking. This time, I put mayonnaise over the bread with the star-shaped tip. :) (If you use the star-shaped tip, you don't need to press the bread with a jar for an egg because the thick wall of mayonnaise keeps the an egg in the right place.)
