Royal Kona Museum & Coffee Mill - Traveling the Big Island, Hawaii - Day 2-3/6

On January 1, my husband and I headed toward Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. On our way there, we drove through Kona District and found Royal Kona Museum & Coffee Mill. We decided to stop by this museum.

This museum was free, and there was self-guided tour.

They had so many different kinds of coffee for sampling. We tried peaberry coffee for our first time. According to Wikipedia, normally the fruit ("cherry") of the coffee plant contains two seeds ("beans") that develop with flattened facing sides, but sometimes only one of the two seeds is fertilized, and the single seed develops with nothing to flatten it. This oval (or pea-shaped) bean is known as peaberry. Typically around 5% of all coffee beans harvested are of this form. They were also selling some Hawaiian sweets and souvenirs.

The scenery from this museum was so beautiful. Because we were planning to go to National Park after this, we didn't stay long at this museum.
