3 Best Affordable Japanese Facial Lotion, Keshosui (& My Favorite One + My Skincare Routine)

Japanese facial lotion is called keshosui (化粧水) in Japan, and it is seriously the most important skincare item for Japanese women. Japanese facial lotion looks like toner. However, while toner is usually swiped on your skin with facial cotton, you can apply Japanese facial lotion with hands or cotton, and just gently pat into your skin until absorbed. Japanese facial lotion is used to hydrate skin, and then you are supposed to use emulsion, milky lotion, which is called nyueki(乳液) in Japan, in order to keep moisture in your skin from evaporating.

Last month, I read February 2019 Issue of Biteki (美的), Japanese beauty magazine, and I became interested in their article about best affordable skin care products. Today, I'm going to share with you three best affordable keshosui (kesho-sui), Japanese facial lotion, I found in Biteki magazine. :)

Hatomugi Skin Conditioner is very inexpensive facial lotion. Yet, this lotion is loved by so many Japanese people. Because of its low price, you can use plenty of it at a time. Many Japanese women suggest to use it for facial mask. You can put it in facial cotton or facial mask sheet, and leave it on your face for 3 to 10 minutes. ORBIS Aqua Force Lotion M (オルビスアクアフォースローション M)

ORBIS Aqua Force Lotion is their longest selling lotion. It hydrates your skin and keep your skin healthy and beautiful. It's also perfect for sensitive skin. Aqua Force Lotion M is for normal to dry skin type, and Aqua Force Lotion L is for oily skin type. Even though ORBIS is pretty affordable skincare brand, you cannot find this one at drugstores. It can be purchased at ORBIS branches, and many department stores carry ORBIS products.

Muji Light Toning Water - Moisture (無印良品化粧水・敏感肌用しっとりタイプ)

I have been using keshosui (化粧水), Japanese lotion, since I was a teen. I've tried many types of keshosui so far, and my most favorite one is Muji Light Toning Water - Moisture (無印良品化粧水・敏感肌用しっとりタイプ)! (This product can be found at Muji branches and FamilyMart convenience stores in Japan. You cannot find this one at drugstores.) I think I have used up more than 15 bottles of Muji Light Toning Water so far. The reasons why I love it is that it's affordable, so I can use plenty of it at a time. I also like the fact that its texture is as light as water, but it moisturizes very well (With applying light feeling keshosui, I feel as if my skin were drinking water.). Some Japanese keshosui has thicker texture such as Hadalabo Gokujun (ハダラボ極潤), but I prefer lighter texture to thicker one. If you are looking for slightly thicker texture lotion, you might like its High Moisture one (高保湿タイプ), which is also very popular in Japan.

Muji Spray Head for Keshosui (無印良品スプレーヘッド化粧水用)

I also love this Muji Spray Head for Keshosui (無印良品スプレーヘッド化粧水用) so much! You can remove the cap of Muji Light Toning Water and attach this spray head to it. Without this spray head, you can still apply Muji Light Toning Water, but it's so much easier to apply it with this one. This is one of must-have items for me now! Just keep in mind that this spray head only works with light texture products such as my favorite Muji Light Toning Water Moisture and popular Hatomugi Skin Conditioner. It Does Not work with Muji Light Toning Water High Moisture because it has thicker texture.
