MUJI JAPAN - Popular MUJI Curry

As I mentioned in my previous entry, What He Got at Muji Store in Japan - Muji Haul, my husband bought Muji curry retort pouches at Muji branches in Tokyo, Japan, this month. Last night we finally had Muji Butter Chicken Curry and Muji Keema Curry. :) The amount looked a little small but it was actually just the right size.

Muji Butter Chicken Curry
Muji Butter Chicken Curry is the best selling Muji product. Indeed, it was so delicious, and we really loved it. :) It was mild and creamy. It wasn't very spicy, so I think small children love it too.

Muji Keema Curry
This was our second time to have Muji Keema Curry. This curry is medium hot. It was just as good as we expected. :))

According to Muji, the most popular selling item in 7000 kinds of Muji products is Muji Butter Chicken Curry. The second biggest-selling item is Muji Green Curry. About 20,000 serving Muji curry has been sold in Japan every day. If you are planning on visiting Japan and love Muji products, I really recommend you to try Muji Curry. Each retort pouch is usually around 300 yen and tastes so good. If you love super spicy foods, try their green curry. To me, Muji Green Curry was way too hot but tasted great.

Last year, we made handmade nahn with Muji nahn kit and tried some kinds of Muji curry. If you are interested in Muji curry, you can check out my video, How to Make Muji Curry : Handmade Nahn, Keema Curry & Green Curry. :)

T.J. Maxx Haul - Gift Card Deal at Rite Aid

Today, I purchased T.J. Maxx gift cards at Rite Aid because they are offering 500 Plenti points (which is worth $5) when you purchase T.J. Maxx, Marshalls or HomeGoods $25 gift card at Rite Aid this week. You can use Plenti points next shopping at Rite Aid, Macy's and etc, so this deal is like you can purchase a $25 gift card for $20. (It's 20% off!)   This deal is limit 2 offers per Plenti Cardholder, so I purchased two $25 gift cards for $50 and got $10 worth Plenti points. I like Rite Aid's gift card deal. :) They sometimes offer same deals on Kohl's gift cards, Banana Republic gift cards and more.

After purchasing T.J. Maxx gift cards at Rite Aid, my husband and I went to T.J. Maxx. I'm going to share what we bought there with you. :)
Because he sometimes goes on a business trip, he purchased this Memory Foam Travel Neck Pillow. It was originally $17 but was $9.99 there (It was like $7.99 with the gift card deal.). It will be very useful during a long flight for oversea travel. He also purchased Nautica long sleeve shirt, which was originally $69.50 but was $15 there (It was like $12 with the gift card deal.).
I was looking for a fluffy bath rug for our guest bathroom, and I finally chose this Hotel Bath Rug. It was originally $19 but was on sale for $12 there (It was like $9.60 with the gift card deal.). :) This bath rug is slightly glittering. I really like this rug which is very comfortable to stand on.

I think this bath rug is really good with our guest bathroom cabinet. :) As I mentioned in my previous entry, we painted it white and install t-bar pulls for this contemporary look this summer. We will renovate our bathrooms more this year though. :)

Target Haul - Rimmel Makeups

Rimmel Makeups are always very affordable, yet I found great deals on Rimmel makeups at Target yesterday and purchased these Rimmel pressed powder and eyeliner there. :)
Target Haul

This Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder 020 Nude Beige was originally $3.99, but I used a $1 off Rimmel manufacture coupon and $2 off Target coupon, so I ended up paying $0.99 for it!
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

This Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner 003 Brown was originally $3.99 as well, and I ended up paying it for $0.99 with using a $1 off Rimmel manufacture coupon and a $2 off Target coupon. :)
Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner

You can always use both a manufacture coupon and a store coupon on one item at Target. Rimmel makeups are always very inexpensive, and using two coupons makes a huge discount. :) Now, you can still find a $2 off Target coupon for Rimmel beauty item on Target.com. I got Rimmel manufacture coupons from Sunday news paper on September 25th, but you can also find Rimmel manufacture coupons on Redplum.com. In addition, Target Cartwheel App released a 15% off All Makeup and Nail Polish offer today, so if you purchase these makeups with using coupons and Cartwheel App today, you can get them for $0.69 each! :) (Yesterday, there was no Cartwheel offer on Rimmel items!)

By the way, I really love Target Cartwheel App. Before going shopping, I usually make shopping lists and prepare coupons, but at the store, I sometimes find something which I really want to buy but is not on my shopping list. Then, I scan the barcord on the product through Target Cartwheel App with my iPhone to make sure if there is an additional offer. If I find a Cartwheel offer on the item, I add the offer (You can add as many offers as you want.) and scan the offer barcode on the Cartwheel App at checkout. It's super simple and so useful. If you are a Target shopper and love great deals, you should get Target Cartwheel App on your smartphone. :)

Starbucks California Double Wall Traveler

Starbucks has just released so many Starbucks Local Collection Travelers this week. :) My husband purchased this Starbucks California Double Wall Traveler at our local Starbucks. This California traveler can be purchased at Starbucks branches located in California. This beautiful traveler was made from the artisan's hand drawing. When I first looked at this traveler, I thought it's really really California! California's wild plants, wild animals, famous foods, Bay Bridge and Hollywood were designed on this traveler. :)

By the way, their 2015 California traveler was also really cool. :) It was inspired by California State Flag.

Starbucks Local Collection can be purchased locally, but now you can find all their local travelers at their online. I think popular ones will be sold out very quickly. I just ordered some other travelers last night, and I will share them with you soon.

How to Cook Chicken Tortilla Soup

Last night, I cooked chicken tortilla soup which has been my most favorite Mexican soup since I had one at the Mexican restaurant in Bishop two years ago. I've made burrito at home recently because limes and cilantro were on sale at my local Sprouts, so it's perfect time to enjoy Mexican foods. When I make burrito, I also want to cook this soup because those ingredients are pretty same. :) Chicken tortilla soup is very nutritious and delicious. It's savory and flavorful. Today, I'm going to share how to cook chicken tortilla soup with you.
Ingredients (4 Servings)

1 tablespoon of oil
1 onion (chopped)
2 tablespoons of crushed garlic
8 oz of chicken (cut them into chunks)
2 teaspoons of chili powder
1 teaspoon of oregano
14 oz of canned chopped tomatoes
2 tablespoon of tomato paste
2 cups of chicken broth
14 oz of canned beans
1 tortilla (cut them into strips)
nip of salt and black pepper
some parsley leaves
1 lime

1. Heat the oil in a pan over high heat. Saute the chicken until golden on both sides.

2. Add onion and garlic and stir-fry them for several minutes.

3. Sprinkle in the chili powder and oregano and stir to coat the chicken in the spices.

4. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste and chicken broth. Simmer for 20 minutes.

5. Add the beans and tortilla and parsley. Season with salt and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.

6. Serve it in bowl and squeeze lime into soup.

7. Enjoy!

Starbucks Japan Tumbler - Tokyo Haneda Airport Special Edition

When my husband was on his business trip in Tokyo, Japan this month, he purchased this Starbucks Japan tumbler, Tokyo Haneda Airport Special Edition, which is only available at Starbucks branches located in Haneda Airport, Tokyo International Airport. He used to live in Tokyo for years before we were married, and I flew to Tokyo from Osaka to see him several times a year back then. I've been to Haneda Airport many times, and I think the last time I visited Haneda Airport was on September 7 in 2008, which was the day I moved to the U.S. At that time, Haneda Airport handled almost only domestic flights. I flew to Haneda Airport from Fukuoka Airport that day. Then, I needed to be in hurry to go to Narita International Airport in Chiba prefecture to fly to L.A. Moving from Haneda Airport to Narita International Airport with carrying huge suitcases was very inconvenient for me. In 2010, they finally opened international terminal. :) Even though Haneda Airport, Tokyo International Airport, is smaller than Narita International Airport (They don't have as many stores as Narita Airport has.), it's much easier to go to main areas in Tokyo.
Anyway, I'm going to share this limited tumbler with you. :)

There are Tokyo Bay and many airplanes pictured on this tumbler. One of the coolest features of  this tumbler is that you can transform the design from day sky to night sky by pouring coffee into this tumbler. :)

Daihatsu Move Canbus - Adorable Japanese Kei Car

While I was watching Japanese TV drama series for the first time in years last week, I found some interesting Japanese car commercials. Because I don't usually watch Japanese TV show,  every TV commercials were new to me.

As I mentioned in my previous entry, kei car, a Japanese category of small vehicles, is getting more and more popular because of how environmentally friendly these cars are. The engine is 660 cc, but it is powerful enough to drive on city roads.

Daihatsu, one of the most famous car manufactures in Japan, has released some new kei cars recently. The TV commercial of Daihatus Move Canbus caught my eye.

Daihatsu Move Canbus
Daihatsu Move Canbus
I thought this car was inspired by vintage Volkswagen bus.
Daihatsu Move Canbus

When I moved to the U.S., one of things surprising me was that most cars here were Japanese cars. Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Suzuki, and Mitsubishi are all Japanese car manufactures. However, when you visit Japan, I think that you will be still surprised at Japanese cars there. You can find varieties of car colors there such as green, blue and yellow more often than the U.S. (Most cars in the U.S. are silver, black or white.) I think it's because car resale value is very low in Japan. If you want to sell your 10 year old car in Japan, your car will be estimated at as low as free. When you buy a car, you don't have to think too much about resale value in Japan. If you choose yellow or pink, it doesn't matter. That's why people in Japan choose whatever they like.

How to Cook Okowa, Japanese Sticky Rice

This morning, my husband and I cooked okowa (おこわ/おこわ飯), which is Japanese sticky rice.  We purchased sticky rice (もち米), which is also called sweet rice, at Korean supermarket about a month ago, and we just bought Japanese burdock root, which is called gobo (ごぼう/牛蒡) in Japanese, at Japanese supermarket last week, so it's time to cook our favorite okowa! :) Okowa is sweet, salty and savory sticky rice. It tastes pretty similar to Chinese zongzi. If you love zongzi, you might like Japanese okowa as well. :) We cooked 16 servings of okowa (I know you think it's too much!) and made okowa rice balls with leftover. Then put them freezer, so we can enjoy them for a while. :) If truth be told we have only 6 rice balls in our freezer now! Yes, we've eaten a lot already. :) Anyway, I'm going to share how to make okowa with you.
Ingredients (8 Go / 16 Servings)

8 Go (8 Rice Cups) of Sticky Rice (or 2 Go of White Rice and 6 Go of Sticky Rice)  *1 Go (一合, ichi-go) means one Japanese rice measuring cup (180ml) of rice.
2 Tablespoons of Dried Hijiki
1 lb of pork (Minced)
1 Japanese burdock root (Sliced)
2 Carrots (Minced)
4 Tablespoons of Sugar
4 Tablespoons of Sake
8 Tablespoons of Soy Sauce
6 Tablespoons of Mirin
1,600 ml (54 fl oz) of Water
2 Tablespoons of Hondashi

1. Wash the rice with water. Then soak the rice in water for 30 minutes.

2. Soak dried hijiki in water for 10 minutes. Strain the water.

3. Stir-fry pork, burdock root, carrots and hijiki in a large pan for 3 minutes or so. Add sugar, sake, soy sauce and mirin, and simmer them until water evaporates.

4.
For A Pressure Cooker : Put the rice into a large pressure cooker. Add water and hondashi, and stir them. Top with simmered pork and vegetables. Cover the lid. Heat it over high heat until the level of pressure is reached. Reduce the heat to a lower level and simmer for 10 minutes. Turn off the heat and wait for another 10 minutes.
For A Large Pan : Put the rice into a large pan. Add water and hondashi, and stir them. Top with simmered pork and vegetables. Cover the lid. Heat the pan over high heat until boiling. Reduce the heat to a lower and simmer for 10 minutes. Then, turn off the heat and wait for another 10 minutes.

5. Toss the okowa.

6 Enjoy!

Top 3 Best Japanese Double Eyelid Glue/Tape Products

Believe it or not plastic surgery isn't very common in Japan. It's so controversial because people in Japan believe that your body was given by your parents, so you shouldn't get unnecessary surgeries. That's being said some Japanese women have monolids, and they really want to have double eyelids without getting blepharoplasty, double-eyelid surgery. Indeed, many of my friends who have monolids have used Japanese double eyelid glue/tape every day. Using double eyelid products are much more popular than getting blepharoplasty in Japan. When I visit my friends in Japan, they talk about which double eyelid glue/tape works best. By the way, double eyelid products are called eye puchi (アイプチ) in Japanese. I have never used those products because I have double eyelids, but I think Japanese double eyelid products work pretty well since I always forget my friends have monolids originally. Their double eyelids look perfectly natural to me. I think this is another reason why plastic surgery isn't very common in Japan because you can get double eyelids without surgery. Indeed, none of my friends have ever had a plastic surgery. There are so many double eyelid products you can find in Japan. Today, I'm going to share top 3 most popular double eyelid glue/tape products in Japan with you. :)

No.1 Royal Petit Eyem Double Eyelid liquid
Royal Petit Eyem
Royal Petit Eyem has so many positive reviews on Amazon Japan and @cosme, a huge Japanese cosmetic reviews site. Even though it's pretty expensive (about 2800yen), many people say it's the best double eyelid product they have ever used and purchase it again and again. This waterproof double eyelid liquid keeps your double eyelids all day long.

How to Use Royal Petit Eyem

    1. Apply the liquid on your eyelids. (Some people reapply two to three coats to get better result.)

    2. Wait for dry completely. You can use hair dryer (cool) to dry it faster.

    3. After it dries translucent, you can use a Q-tip to remove shininess.

     4. Open your eyes, and you can enjoy your double eyelids all day long.

Some Japanese people have posted tutorial videos for Royal Eyem Double Eyelid Liquid.

No.2 DUP Wonder Eyelid Tape
DUP Wonder Eyelid Tape

DUP Wonder Eyelid Tape is also popular in Japan. You might need to practice a few times, but once you get used to it, you can create perfect double eyelids every day. It is also well known outside Japan now. I think it's because Michelle Phan has used this product in her video. As she says in this video, this tape should be used before makeup.

No.3 Mejikaliner Night & Hard
Mejikaliner Night & Hard
Mejikaraliner Night & Hard is double eyelid glue. You can apply it before sleeping. (Some people also use it before makeup next morning.)
Mejikaraliner Night & Hard

People reviews that they don't need double eyelid products eventually after they use it every day for a long time. This product is not for creating permanent double eyelids, but as you use it after removing makeup every night, it literally keeps your double eyelids for almost 24/7. Eventually, your eyelids remember where they should be without it. :)  However, if you have very sensitive skin, you might want to skip this product. It's pretty strong.

John Wayne Airport

This morning, I gave him a ride to John Wayne Airport because he would fly to other states for his business trip.

Even though highways were pretty slow because of morning rush hour, there were fewer cars around the airport. That's why I like John Wayne Airport more than LAX. :)

He has some more business trips this fall, and I will be his own driver several times within a month. :)
