Aska, A Japanese Pop Singer-Songwriter

A few days ago, Aska, a Japanese pop singer-songwriter, was arrested for allegedly using illegal stimulant drug. It was very shocking news in Japan. He was first arrested for illegal stimulant drug possession in 2014, and he was suspended for four-year sentence. I hoped that he would recover from drug addiction because he is one of the greatest musicians in Japan. I remembered that I often listened to Yah Yah Yah, one of his hit songs, when I was a child, and many of his songs were used as theme songs for popular Japanese TV drama series.

I read his blog and knew that he writes songs and lyrics based on his own experiences. Yesterday, I watched this video and realized how beautiful his songs are once again. The lyrics, melody and his voice are amazing. At the same time, I was very sad that we might be losing him.

As I read through his blog, I thought that the problems that he has are not only drug addiction. He needs to overcome a lot from now. It's not easy and might take years and years, but I really hope that he will get over all difficulty and show us his brilliant music again.

Kohl's Haul - Black Friday Sale

Last week, I purchased some items from Kohl's. Because they were offering great deals on so many products for Black Friday Sale, I was able to purchase some items with super great deals. In addition, Kohl's gift cards are often on sale at drugstores. I paid my orders with Kohl's gift cards which I purchased with 20 to 30% discounts in advance. :)  Today, I finally received some packages from Kohl's. I'm going to share with you what I purchased with their Black Friday Sale.

You know Black Friday sales start earlier nowadays. :) Last Tuesday, I ordered this Pyrex 24-piece Storage Set with Color Lids. As I mentioned in my previous entries, I owned many Pyrex containers, but I thought I still needed to have more glass containers since my husband and I don't use plastic containers anymore.
Pyrex 24-pc. Storage Set with Color Lids
This Pyrex 24-piece Storage Set was originally $69.99 but was on sale for $29.99. I used 15% Off coupon code, so it turned out to be $25.49, but it was actually about $20 with the Khol's gift card deal. In addition, I will submit a $10 rebate for it, and I will get $2 cash back from Ebates, which is a company that gives you cash back if you click through the links of the store which listed on ebates.com. It will be $8 after everything. ;) I think this was the greatest deal I've ever seen!

I also purchased two collar dress shirts for my husband. They were originally $64 but were on sale for $15! I used a 15% off coupon code, so they turned out to be $12.75, but they were $10.20 with the Kohl's gift card deal. In addition, I will get $1.14 cash back from Ebates! Two collar dress shirts will be $9 after everything. :)

I also purchased this One-Piece Pajamas. It was originally $48 but was on sale for $14.99. It turned out to be $12.74 with a 15% coupon code but was $10.19 with the Kohl's gift card deal. I will receive a $1.14 cash back from Ebates, so it will end up being $9!

Last Friday, I purchased this Cuisinart 7-Cup Food Processor because my food processor broke months ago, so I was looking for a great deal for it.
Cuisinart 7-Cup Food Processor
This food processor was originally $119.99 but was on sale for 79.99. It turned out to be $67.99 with a 15% off coupon code, but it was actually $54.39 with Kohl's gift card deal. I will submit a $30 rebate for it, and I will receive $6.70 from Ebates, so it will be $17.69 after everything.

I also wanted to purchase a stockpot and found this Food Network 5-qt. Hard-Anodized Nonstick Aluminum Chili Pot. It was originally $59.99 but was on sale for $39.99. It turned out to be $33.99 with a 15% off coupon code but was actually $27 with the Kohl's gift card deal. In addition, I will get a $3.39 cash back from Ebates, so it will be $23.80 after everything!

Because Kohl's was offering a $15 Kohl's Cash with purchasing of $50. I earned a $45 Kohl's Cash. If truth be told, I already sold my Kohl's Cash for $37 on Ebay since I thought I wouldn't use it.

The total retail price was $361.97 but these cost only $67.49, and I earned $31 on Ebay (after Ebay fee). They are like $36.49, so it came out 90% off! I think it was the greatest deal I've ever seen on Black Friday! :)

These Are My Kohl's Shopping Tips! ;))
・Buy gift cards with great deal in advance. I usually purchase ones at drugstores.
・Use coupon code (You can also find coupon codes on Ebates.).
・Always purchase through cashback site such as Ebates and Topcashback.
・If you think you won't use your Kohl's cash, just sell it on Ebay.

Clinique Haul - Black Friday Deal

I have been using Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion for so many years. My lotion would run out soon, so I needed to get a new one. Last Friday, I found Clinique was offering 25% off any order on Black Friday through Cyber Monday. My favorite Clinique lotion was originally $26 but was on sale for $19.50 with 25% discount! In addition, Topcashback, which is a company that gives you cash back if you click through the links of the store which listed on topcashback.com, was offering 13.20% cash back, so I will get $2.57 from them later, so my Clinique lotion will end up being $16.93, which was 35% off! I think it's not too shabby. ;)  By the way, last year, I purchased Clinique lotion through Ebates, which is a company just like Topcashback. I always compared Ebates and Topcashback in order to get better cash back. :)

If you are interested in Ebates.com and Topcashback.com, these are my referred links.

Anyway, I finally received my package from Clinique today. :)
Clinique
Actually, I started using Clinique skincare products when I was in early 20s in Japan. At that time, I used all Clinique lines. Clinique products in Japan are about three times more expensive than ones in the U.S., but I really loved their products. After many years, I use different skin care products but am still using this Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. :)
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +

I got this sample of Cliqnique Smart Eye Treatment. I cannot wait to try it tonight!

Tenshinhan - What My Husband Cooked

Somi Shantan Deluxe
When my husband was on his business trip in Japan, he bought this Somi Shantan Deluxe at Don Quijote in Tokyo. It is popular condiment for Chinese foods in Japan and is similar to Ueipa. The Somi Shantan Deluxe had a recipe booklet on it, and I wanted to try this recipe. :)
Somi Shantan Deluxe

Last week, he cooked this tenshinhan (天津飯), which is also called tenshindon (天津丼). Tenshinhan is Japanese crab meat omelet on rice. He used crab stick, imitation crab meat, for this dish. He told me that he wish he had chopped green onion on it, but it was so delicious!

It's Black Friday!

My husband and I have been planning on purchasing a new refrigerator since we purchase our home this summer. Our 18-cubic-feet refrigerator is too small for us because we cook on a daily basis. We were going to buy one earlier, but we have been so busy these months, so we didn't have time for refrigerator shopping. It's finally Black Friday now. We should buy one today! :)
Lowe's
Even though we will buy one online today, we went to our local Lowe's to see refrigerators on the day before Thanksgiving Day. Because we have a narrow small kitchen, we are planning on purchasing a counter depth refrigerator.
Lowe's

We checked so many refrigerators there. We opened the doors and drawers and checked the refrigerator had enough spaces in it.
Lowe's

Top-mounted freezers are usually greater energy efficiency.
Lowe's

When we lived in Japan, we used to own a bottom freezer refrigerator, and I loved it.
Lowe's

Side-by-side refrigerators are less energy efficiency, but they are affordable prices.
Lowe's

It's pretty hard to find the best refrigerator for us, but we will buy one today anyway. :)

By the way, when we lived in Japan, we used to use Mitsubishi refrigerator. In the U.S., Mitsubishi is well known as one of Japanese motor vehicle companies like Toyota. However, Mitsubishi is one of the biggest Japanese companies in a variety of industries. They actually make so many kinds of products such as ferries, elevators, nuclear power plants and more. I loved all Japanese appliances I used to use in Japan. Japanese electronic manufacture companies make very excellent ones which won't break for so many years. I hope that Japanese companies will expand their business to the U.S. someday. I would like Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Hitachi, Toshiba, Sanyo and Sharp to sell appliances here.

Sara Udon, Japanese Plate Noodles - What My Husband Cooked

Sara Udon (皿うどん)
Today, my hsuband cooked this sara udon for our lunch. Sara udon (皿うどん) is Japanese crispy deep-fried noodles and topped with stir-fried vegetable and thick soup. Sara (皿) in Japanese means plate. If you like Japanese noodles, you have probably heard udon (うどん) before. Typical udon noodles are white thick noodles, but sara udon is not typical udon. The noodles used for sara udon are usually very thin and so crispy.

He used instant sara udon noodles to make it. Today, we first thought that we got this from my mother-in-law because she has sent us sara udon noodles before. However, we finally remembered that we bought this at Japanese supermarket in the U.S. months ago. :) If you live in the U.S., you can find instant sara udon noodles at many Japanese supermarkets. By the way, Nagasaki (長崎) is famous for sara udon. We've also found it a liking for Marutai Nagasaki Ramen these days. :)

Is It Good or Bad? - Amazon Japan Convenience Store Pickup

As I mentioned in my previous entry, a week before my husband went on business trip to Japan last month, I ordered Panasonic hair dryer from Amazon Japan. He picked up my item at the convenience store which was located near his hotel in Tokyo. We have used Amazon Japan some times when we visited our parents home in Fukuoka, Japan before, but it was our first time to receive our order at convenience store in Tokyo. Wow, it was very convenient, and we really loved it! Indeed, this month he went to Japan for his business trip again and picked up items we ordered at home in the U.S. :)  Anyway, I'm going to share with you five reasons why I love Amazon Japan convenience store pickup.

Why do I love Amazon Japan convenience store pickup?

1. You can pick up your items even though you don't live in Japan.
Amazon Japan allows you to choose convenience store pickup option, so you can pick up your package while you are traveling Japan. :) In Japan, convenience stores are everywhere especially in big cities like Tokyo. Indeed, it took him only one minute by walking from his hotel to the convenience store.

2. You can save a lot of time in Japan.
If you don't live in Japan, you probably don't have enough time to shop around while staying in Japan. You can skip in-store shopping by ordering from Amazon Japan. Indeed, he only stayed in Japan for one night last month, so he obviously didn't have time to go to an electric store to purchase my Japanese hair dryer. Because we ordered it from Amazon Japan, he was able to get it without spending a lot of time for it.

3. You can check reviews before purchasing.
You can find highly rated products by reading reviews in Japanese. It's very helpful when you try to find new products.

4. Some items are more affordable than ones at stores.
I found some beauty items on Amazon Japan are slightly less expensive than ones at drugstores. However, groceries are a few dollar more expensive than ones at supermarkets there. (The price may vary though.)

5. You can get requested items easily.
If you go to a store and shop for yourself, you can enjoy shopping there. However, if someone asks you to purchase products which you have never been interested in, it's pretty hard to find the right one. If the item is out of stock, which product should you buy then? When I ask my husband to purchase beauty items for me at drugstores in Japan, I try to choose easy items which he has often seen at home. However, I can order girl's stuffs from Amazon Japan without too much hesitation. He just need to pick up the packages in Japan. :)

However, I don't think ordering Amazon Japan is always a good idea. :(  These are three disadvantages of Amazon convenience store pickup.

What are disadvantages of Amazon Japan convenience store pickup?

1. You cannot order whatever you want.
They only ship items sold by Amazon.co.jp to convenience stores. Some items are not eligible for store pickup such as items shipped by Amazon Market Place Sellers and too big items.

2. You need to pick up your items before the pick-up period expires.
The convenience store pickup period is within 11 days from the date you get a delivery notice e-mail. They deliver pretty fast especially around Tokyo area. My packages were arrived at the convenience store one to two days after I ordered them. To be safe, I ordered the items 6 days before my husband was flying to Japan.

3. You need to understand Japanese sometimes.
You can choose a language preference from Japanese, English and Chinese on Amazon Japan. If you cannot read Japanese at all, it might be difficult to order from Amazon Japan. My first language is Japanese, but I chose English in order to share my experience of shopping on Amazon Japan with you through my blog. Even when you set English as your language preference, item titles, item descriptions and reviews are still Japanese. When you are choosing at which convenience store you want to pick up your items, they show shipping store lists in Japanese.

If you are planning on visiting Japan and understand Japanese, I think Amazon Japan convenience store pickup is very useful for you. :)  If you cannot read Japanese at all, I don't really recommend you to purchase from Amazon Japan, but if you are okay to take your time to understand Japanese, go for it.  It's up to you. ;)

Best Japanese Hair Growth Products from Shiseido

Whether you are a man or a woman, anti-aging hair care becomes more important to you at some point. I haven't used hair growth products yet, but I am sure I will need those products sooner or later.

A month ago, I was asked about Japanese hair growth product by my reader through my blog. I tried to find popular hair growth products in Japanese and found that Shiseido makes pretty good products in Japan. Shiseido has developed hair growth products which contain Adenosin, which is a hair grow ingredient. Japanese Ministry of Health has approved Adenosin as an active ingredient and their products are safe to use.
Adenosin

How Does Adenosin Work?
Adenosin improves blood circulation in your scalp, so hair roots get enough oxygen and can supply nutrients to your entire hair. It extends the active phase of the hair growth, so your hair will be stronger and thicker.

Shiseido makes two lines of hair growth products such as Shiseido Adenovital and Shiseido Adenogen. I'm going to share best Japanese hair growth products from Shiseido with you.

1. Shiseido Adenovital
Shiseido Adenovital
Shiseido Adenovital is pretty popular Japanese hair growth brand for women and men in Japan. It is professional line and is used at many professional hair salons in Japan. ■Shiseido Adenovital Scalp Essence V
Adenovital Scalp Essence V

■Shiseido Adenovital Shampoo
Adenovital Shampoo

Some people review that this shampoo improves their scalp condition and is the best shampoo they have ever used. However, it doesn't work for everyone especially people who have very dry scalp. If you have oily skin, it might work for you.

・For men and women
・Apply it on your wet scalp. Massage your scalp on your fingers, and rise it thoroughly.
・Use daily.
・250ml

■Shiseido Adenovital Scalp Treatment
Adenovital Scalp Treatment
Treatment in Japanese means deep conditioner. It also has so many positive reviews, and people review that it improves your scalp condition, and you can get beautiful silky smooth hair.

・For men and women

Adenogen was first released from Shiseido in 2005, and they improved the product and named Adenogen EX in 2015. If you are a man, you can choose Adenogen EX. If you are a woman, you can choose Adenogen Gracy.

Ningyo yaki is a traditional small molded Japanese cake originated from Tokyo and is one of the most popular Tokyo's souvenirs. It has sweetened red bean pastes in it. Because I love ningyo yaki, he purchased it for me. (He also purchase ningyo yaki last time he visited Tokyo.) This box contained 10 pieces of ningyo yaki, but it's been a week since he brought it from Japan, so there are only a few pieces of ningyo yaki left now. ;) These were made to look like faces of Seven Lucky Gods (七福神), which are believed to guarantee good luck in Japan.

Mame Taiyaki 豆たい焼き
Mame (豆) in Japanese means a pea, but it's also sometimes used to express "small" or "tiny". You probably know shiba inu (柴犬), one of dog breeds originated from Japan. The smaller sized shiba inu is called mame shiba (豆柴). Anyway, this mame taiyaki is not typical taiyaki, a Japanese fish-shaped cake. Now, you know that mame taiyaki is very small taiyaki.

Each box contained four pieces of mame taiyaki.

Can you notice that it is fish-shaped? The white package one has mame taiyaki which has sweetened red bean pastes in it. To me, it tasted like ningyo yaki rather than typical taiyaki.

The yellow box has 4 pieces of mame taiyaki which has kuri kinton pastes in it. Kuri kinton (栗きんとん) is Japanese traditional sweets made of chestnut, which is called kuri (栗) in Japanese. In Japan, it's believed that women love chestnuts, potatoes and pumpkins. I think it's true that I love sweets made from those. :)
