As I mentioned in my previous entry, I was really obsessed with Costco's ice cream last month. This month, I enjoy eating carrot cake. I eat one cupcake after dinner. π I've baked a lot of carrot cake at a time and stored them in the refrigerator. Making carrot cake was easy, and this is so delicious. Maybe, it's healthier than Costco's ice cream. π Today, I'm going to share how to make easy carrot cake with you.

Last month, I read an article about new Costco's food court
menu on Yahoo USA, and I thought that I should try this ice cream! I don't usually stop
at Costco food court, but I was really obsessed with their ice cream.
When I went to Costco every weekend, I really felt like eating Costco's ice cream somehow.
"Why is it so addictive?" I don't usually eat ice cream, but last month,
I ate it at Costco every week. π

Costco's ice cream is so big!
This month, I baked carrot cake, and finally, I was able to stop eating Costco's ice cream. (I already ate it 6 times though.) π Maybe, my body needed something sweet. Next time, I will share with you how to make easy carrot cake.
About a year ago, I uploaded this video, How to Set Up Hoy Hoy Trap A Roach, Gokiburi Hoi-Hoi γγγΆγγγ€γγ€, on my YouTube channel. It's because I thought that it's pretty difficult to assemble it properly without reading the instruction, so I hope that this video will be helpful for people who cannot read Japanese. If you have just started living in Japan and need to deal with roach problem in summer, it's too overwhelming. I was never going to write about roaches which are only insects I'm scared of, but today, I'm going to share with you how to keep your home roach free because some of my readers are reading my blog from Japan. π
In Japan, it's said that when you see one cockroach in your home, there are 100 cockroaches living with you. π±
The Reason Why I Hate Roaches!
I really hate cockroaches! I am not scared of other insects such as spiders and ants, but I am seriously scared of roaches. It's because when I was a child in Japan, a roach was hiding in my shoe one morning. I was in a rush at my home entrance to go to school that morning. When I tried to put on my shoes, I screamed out! I almost stepped on the roach! That was the most horrifying experience in my life. That's why I cannot stand seeing a roach!
How I Got Rid of Roaches
When I began living on my own in Japan, I tried to keep my home as clean as I could because I didn't want to see roaches. However, one day I found a roach in my living room, and I started to panic again because I believe that "When you see one cockroach in your home, there are 100 cockroaches living with you!" Then, I set up roach traps and roach killing baits in my home. It worked well and I never saw any roach in my home again. However, after moving into a new place, I saw a roach again! Then, I did the same thing, and it worked as well! I'm going to share with you how to get rid of roaches.
How to Get Rid of Roaches
1. Kill the roach if you see it.
It's very hard to kill a roach because it suddenly moves very fast and could fly. When I find a roach in the kitchen, I use dish soap. I drop some liquid dish detergent on the roach. Dish soap is cheap, and every home has one. Any type of dish soap works really well.
If you are scared of roaches as seriously as I am, it's incredibly hard to kill roaches, but you need to do it to keep your home roach free. After my husband and I moved into our current home in the U.S., I saw a roach in our kitchen. It was the largest roach I've ever seen in my life! π±At that time, he was on his business trip in Japan (That's why I asked him to purchase Earth Gokiburi Hoi-Hoi in Japan.). He was absent from home for a few days, so I needed to do it alone. It was incredibly hard for me to do it emotionally, but I did it with using dish soap! It really worked! It was the first and last roach I saw in my current home in the U.S.
2. Set up roach traps.
If you see some roaches in you home, you should set up roach traps. Roaches love dark, moist and warm places. They hide behind refrigerator, sinks and so on. Place the roach traps where roaches are suspected. You can purchase Earth Gokiburi Hoi-Hoi (γ’γΌγΉγγγΆγγγ€γγ€) at most drugstores in Japan.
If you don't know how to set up Earth Goikiburi Hoi-Hoi, you can check out my YouTube video.
3. Place roach killing baits and replace them every year.
Roach traps catch some roaches, but you still need to destroy their nest. Place roach killing baits in your home. They eat poisonous roach baits and go back to their nest. Then, they will die in their nest. Other roaches eat dead roaches, and they will die too. This is the best way to destroy entire roach nest. Finally, you will not see a roach in your home. Just keep in mind that you should replace roach killing baits every year (I recommend to do it in spring.) in order not to see roaches in your home for good. Even if you destroy their nest in your home, new roaches might come into your home from outside, so setting up roach killing baits in your entire home every year is very important. If you live in Japan, I recommend these three roach killing bait products. You can purchase these at most drugstores in Japan.
Housan Dango is the cheapest roach killing baits but this one also works well.
After you don't see any roach in your home, you don't have to set up roach traps (Earth Gokiburi Hoi-Hoi) anymore, but keep replacing roach killing baits every year. Good Luck! π
Last week, my husband and I went to our local Costco and purchased this shiitake mushroom snack, The Snak Yard Shiitake Mushroom, for our first time.
I have noticed that Costco have been selling this one since a while ago, but I hadn't read the package until last week. I used to believe that this was just "dried shiitake mushroom" because you can find this one in the produce aisle at Costco. However, I saw a girl eating this mushroom at Costco parking lot. I was very confused, and I asked my husband, "Wait, isn't that dried mushroom?" You know you can never eat dried mushrooms without cooking because they are extremely hard. That's why I decided to purchase this one for my first time.
Actually, it's crispy, crunchy mushroom snack. I was surprised that it's so delicious! π It doesn't taste like mushroom, but very flavorful. I thought it tastes like Happy Turn (γγγγΌγΏγΌγ³), famous Japanese rice crackers, somehow. Maybe, they use similar magical seasoning...?
You can purchase The Snak Yard Shiitake Mushroom for around $10 on Amazon. However, if you are a Costco member, you should purchase this one at Costco. It's usually $6.89 at Costco, but now it's on sale for $4.89 there.
This summer, I've been enjoying cooking and having homemade burritos and salsa. I used to buy salsa at my local supermarkets, but now I make delicious salasa at home. It's because it's quick and easy! Today, I'm going to share how to make tomato salsa with you. I hope that you will try this recipe.
