Quick Update from Japan

     My husband and I flew to Tokyo from Los Angeles. Now, we are finally in Japan!

     We were surprised that our airplane was the ANA Star Wars jet, B777-300. :) We arrived in Tokyo on December 28! I'm going to write a quick update about our traveling.

     One of the main reasons why we wanted to visit Tokyo was to have a complete medical checkup. Even though we don't have any symptom, we should have a regular medical checkup annually from our point of view as Japanese (Unlike the U.S., many people in Japan take annual medical checkup.). Medical fee is super expensive in the U.S., so we decided to have it in Japan. I'll write about it next time. :)  By the way, as I expected, taking gastroscopy wasn't easy. It was very hard for me to swallow an endoscope yesterday.

      My husband purchased two pairs of new eyeglasses at J!NS, JINS. As I mentioned in my previous entry, many eyeglass stores sell very affordable stylish eyeglasses in Japan.  Our stay in Japan is eligible for tax free program because we have been living abroad for many years. ;) He got eyeglasses with very affordable price.  

      We walked a lot yesterday. We enjoyed shopping at Tokyu Hands, Loft, Daiso, drugstores, department store and so on! My legs got tired from walking for hours and hours. ;)  Unlike the U.S., living in Tokyo doesn't always need to own a car. People in Tokyo use public transportation and walk a lot.  No wonder most people in Tokyo are so skinny! :)

Nivea Facial Pack - How Japanese People Use Nivea Creme

Nivea Creme

     Classic Nivea cream in blue tin, Nivea Creme, is the longest-selling skincare cream which was first released in Germany over 100 years ago. Nivea expanded to become a global brand, so you can find Nivea products in many countries now. In Japan, Kao, one of the largest Japanese cosmetic companies, has been selling Nivea products since 1968.

Creme De La Mer

       Several years ago, some people found that ingredients of Nivea Creme and Creme De La Mer are very close. You know that Nivea Creme is very affordable skincare cream. Creme De La Mer is high-end cream which costs about $170 for 1 oz. Since then, it has been featured on some Japanese beauty magazines and TV shows indeed. That's why Nivea Creme has been receiving attention as an affordable skincare cream which performs similar to high-end one. Nivea Creme used to be classic skincare cream for body, but now more people in Japan buy it as facial skincare cream. People in Japan started to share Nivea Creme beauty hacks online. Some Japanese people use Nivea Creme as facial pack. Some people use Nivea Creme to remove makeup, and some people use it as haircare product to make their hair beautiful. Especially, Nivea facial pack is pretty popular in Japan. I also found that some Japanese celebrities also use Nivea Creme this way from their blogs. Today, I'm going to share with you how to use Nivea Creme as a facial pack. 


How to Nivea Facial Pack
1. After washing your face, apply plenty (about 1 to 2 tablespoons) of Nivea Creme on your face.
2. Leave steamed hot towel on your face for 10 minutes. (You can make a steamed hot towel with a microwave oven. Put a damp towel in a plastic bag, and microwave it for 30 to 60 seconds.)
3. Then, wipe excess Nivea cream with the towel and rinse your face with lukewarm water. 

How to Nivea Facial Pack in A Bathtub
1. After washing your face, apply plenty of Nivea Creme on your face.
2. Soak in a bathtub for 10 to 15 minutes.
3. Then, wipe excess Nivea cream with a damp towel and rinse your face with lukewarm water.   

Nivea Creme

      Does Nivea Creme work just as well as high-end cream? I don't think so, but I think it's worth a try. :) However, if you have oily skin, you might want to skip Nivea Creme for your facial skin.

Namie Amuro Is Going to Perform at NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen This Year!

     Namie Amuro (安室 奈美恵), a popular Japanese recording artist and dancer, announced that she would retire from the music industry in September of 2018.

      She debuted at age 14 as a singer, and she turned 40 this year. She has been always the top artist of Japan.

      Especially, in the 90s, so many Japanese women were inspired by her look. Her female fans were called "Amura (アムラー)" who dyes hair brown and wears a short skirt and long boots. I'm amazed at how beautiful she is also now! I like her smile! :)

      This year, she is going to perform at NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen (紅白歌合戦), an annual music show on New Year's Eve in Japan. It will be her last appearance on Kohaku Uta Gassen. I'm going to fly to Japan tomorrow, and I hope that I will watch her performance on TV on December 31. :)

       Kose Cosme Decorte Sun Shelter AG Sunscreen was selected as the second best sunscreen award of 2017 by @cosme. Cosme Decorte is a high-end brand of Kose. This sunscreen was first released in 2013 and has so many positive reviews on @cosme. This is not waterproof sunscreen, so it is not perfect for swimming. However, it is light texture and very gentle to your skin with high SPF. Many people review that you never get a sun tan, and it moisturizes your skin very well. If you have dry skin but want to wear high SPF sunscreen, this might be perfect for you.

      Kao Nivea Sun Creme Care UV Cream was selected as the third best sunscreen award of 2017 by @cosme. Japanese Nivea skincare products are made by Kao. These years, classic Nivea cream in blue tin, Nivea Creme, which I think most of my readers have used before, has been very popular in Japan. I've seen it in many Japanese articles, which read that Nivea Creme is very affordable, yet it contains excellent beauty ingredients that high-end beauty cream also has. Have you ever heard of Nivea facial pack? Some Japanese people including Japanese celebrities use Nivea Creme for facial pack (I'll write about it next time.)! I think that Kao created this Nivea Sun Creme Care UV Cream because of the explosive popularity of classic Nivea cream in Japan. This sunscreen has moisturizing ingredients which classic Nivea cream also has. Many people review that while it is very affordable and has high SPF, it moisturizes skin very well. The texture is lighter than classic Nivea cream, but thicker than gel sunscreen. Many Japanese people love this sunscreen and purchased it again and again this year, but some people review that it irritates their skin, so if you have very sensitive skin, you might want to skip this product.

Shopping at Target

      Last weekend, my husband and I went to Target to check their small ottomans. As I mentioned in my previous entry, we have been working on our entryway renovation. As you can see the photo below, we installed new Italian porcelain tiles and luxury vinyl planks. I wanted to put a small storage ottoman in the entryway because it's easier to remove boots while having a seat. :)

      I also wanted to buy new weekly planner for the coming year at Target. The left one is the 2017 weekly planner, Blue Sky Egg Press Cotton Flower 2017 Weekly Monthly Planner, I purchased at Target last year and I'm currently using. I really like it. :)  I eventually bought the 2018 weekly planner, Mead 2018 Weekly Monthly Planner, the right one, at Target. It was about $8. ;)  

     It's very simple gold ring bound and gold print planner and has beautiful sky blue ombre design. :)

There are many beauty products loved by Japanese women this year. Today, I'm going to share with you three best eye creams which won the best beauty award this year. :)

     I believe that applying eye cream every day is very important because the skin around eye area is thinnest in the body and is the first to show age. In my opinion, if you are in your 20s, you should start using eye cream to moisturize around eye area, but you don't really need super high-end one yet. If you have visible wrinkles, you might want to use high-end anti-aging eye cream, which reduces wrinkles.  Those are sometimes too strong to your thinnest skin, so try to use a tiny tiny tiny amount of it for your first time. :)

Since this eye serum released this year, it has already won 23 beauty awards from many Japanese beauty magazines and etc. Many people review that they noticed it reduces fine lines and wrinkles in just 4 to 12 weeks!  

   According to Pola, Pola Wrinkle Shot Medical Serum works for grade three to five wrinkles (It works for people who have visible wrinkles.). I think that if you are in your 20s and don't have any wrinkles, you probably don't need this eye serum. :)


How to Apply

     It contain pure retinol, which moisturizes, softens your skin and reduce fine lines. Many people review that it moisturizes your skin around eye areas very well and reduced wrinkles indeed. Many people love that Elixir one is less expensive than Pola one and would like to purchase it again.

     Flowfushi The Eye Cream was ranked number three as the best eye care award of 2017 by @cosme. It contains endmineral and relieves eye strain with massaging around eye area with it. It also contains moisturizing ingredients such as plant oil and shea butter. Some people review that it improves skin elasticity and reduces puffy eyes, and their eyes look bigger.
