This week, I've watched Japanese News about Japanese candies. Japanese hard candies have been incredibly popular for foreign tourists visiting Japan. In addition, amount of exports of hard candies from Japan have doubled in the last six years.
Today, I'm going to share with you 15 popular Japanese hard candies and gummy candies. If you are planning on visiting Japan, you can find these at most supermarkets and discount stores in Japan. Hard candies are usually less than 300 yen per package in Japan. (Actually, most of them are under 200 yen!)
No.1 Hi-Chew by Morinaga (森永 ハイチュウ)

Hi-Chew (ハイチュウ) is
chewy candies made by Morinaga (森永), which was established in Tokyo,
Japan in 1899. They started selling Hi-Chew in 1975 and have sold 131
kinds of Hi-Chew since then. When I lived in Japan, Hi-Chew was one of
my favorite candies especially green apple flavor. You can find Hi-Chew
everywhere in Japan such as convenience stores and supermarkets. These
years, Hi-Chew has been pretty popular outside Japan too. Hi-Chew are
sold in 20 countries now.
No.2 Soda Candy by Lion (ライオン じゃんじゃかソーダ 8)

Lion (ライオン菓子) makes popular hard candies in Japan. The company established in Tokyo in 1905. This
Soda Candy (じゃんじゃか ソーダ８) has 8 kinds of soda flavors including coke and orange soda. When you
put the candy into your mouth, it starts lightly fizzing in your mouth.

No.3 Drink Mix by Lotte (ロッテ ドリンクミックス)

Lotte (ロッテ) was first founded in Tokyo in 1948 and expanded their business to Korea in 1966.
Drink Mix (ドリンク ミックス 5) is hard candies and has 5 kinds of Japanese famous drink flavors. Indeed, you can find these "real drinks" such as
Suntory C.C. Lemon at most grocery stores, convenience stores and many vending machines in Japan!
No.4 Toukuno Milk 8.2 by UHA Mikakuto (UHA味覚糖 特濃ミルク8.2)

Tokunou Milk 8.2 (特濃ミルク8.2) candy has rich milk taste. They also sell matcha milk flavor candies,
Tokuno Milk 8.2 Matcha (特濃ミルク8.2 抹茶), and also very popular.
No.5 Super Lemon by Nobel (ノーベル スーパーレモン キャンディ)

Nobel (ノーベル製菓) makes hard candies in Japan. The company was first founded in Osaka in 1929.
Super Lemon (スーパーレモン) was released in 1980 and is their longest-selling product. At first, they created this super sour lemon candy in order to help people stay awake during a long drive or studying all night. :) By the way, Japan has more of "staying awake" candy and chewing gum such as
Lotte Black Black Gum, which has extraordinary minty flavor!
No.6 Drops by Sakuma (サクマ ドロップス)

Sakuma (サクマ製菓) makes hard candies in Japan. The company first started selling Sakuma Drops (サクマ式ドロップス) in 1908. Then, they started selling
Sakuma Drops in tin in 1913. You can see Sakuma Drops in

Japanese animated war film.
No.7 Gummy Candy by Kasugai (春日井製菓 グミキャンディ)

Kasugai (春日井製菓) is a Japanese confectionery company. The company was first founded in Aichi, Japan, in 1928.
Their fruit gummy candies have been very popular for foreign tourists in Japan these years.
No.8 Milky by Fujiya (不二家ミルキー)
Hard and Chewy Candies
Fujiya (不二家) is a Japanese confectionery company. The company was first founded in Kanagawa, Japan, in 1910.
Milky (ミルキー) was released in 1951 and has been very popular in Japan. Milky has sweetened condensed milk tastes and chewy. I think everyone loves it.
No.9 Koume by Lotte (ロッテ 小梅)

Koume (小梅) in Japan in 1974. The candy has sour powder outside and ume (Japanese plum) paste inside. Have you ever tried
Japanese umeboshi (梅干し), Japanese pickled plum? Umeboshi has sour and salty tastes (if honey was added in umeboshi, it tastes slightly sweet.), and you can find ume rice balls at most convenience stores in Japan. This candy is made from umeboshi. I was surprised that this Koume is also popular for foreign tourists in Japan!
No.10 Kororo by UHA Mikakuto (UHA味覚糖 コロロ)

Kororo (コロロ) is fruit gummy candies made by UHA Mikakuto (UHA味覚糖). Kororo was released in Japan in 2014, and it's my most favorite Japanese gummy candy. I was very impressed at
Kororo Grape! The texture was really like real grapes!
No.11 Flower Kiss by Kasugai (春日井製菓 花のくちづけ)

Flower Kiss (花のくちづけ) is also the longest selling hard candies made by Kasugai. I remember that I used to often eat one during studying with my friends when I was 13. This candy has condensed milk and plum tastes. The individual package has different flower pictures and language of the flower.
No.12 Kuro Ame by Kasugai (春日井製菓 黒あめ)

Kuro Ame (黒あめ) is Okinawan brown sugar hard candies made by Kasugai. Okinawa prefecture (沖縄県) is a major producer of sugar cane in Japan, and Okinawan brown sugar is very famous. My husband loves it. :)
No.13 Ichigo Milk Candy by Sakuma (サクマ いちごみるく)
